My previous note-holder would only deduct the payment from the savings account you have to have opened with them, and sometimes it was a bit of pain - now I can pay online with just using my checking account routing/transit number, payment books, autopay, etc.

Used 4S's in Canada at dealerships go for 50K + and then add more for tax's/registration.

I think auto manufacturers are willing to take in a good used car in order to upsell some buyers into a current model.

I realize that these two things may not impact prospective Porsche buyers as much as some other brands, but it does point to the fact that used car values are on the rise.

I probably paid more than I should, but I had my heart set on the Anniversary Edition - I think it is one of the better looking narrow bodies, plus the extra ponies and that nice GT Silver paint (my last 3 cars have been Silver - looks good, and pretty easy to keep looking clean).

Correct if you are replacing with another used car, but the new car market is still soft, so if you plan on selling your used to buy new you will definitely come out ahead.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I read an article about this in the paper on Friday. The sluggish economy is causing more and more people to keep their cars longer as opposed to buying new cars. Additionally, many used cars were taken out of the market with the "Cash for Clunkers" program. I realize that these two things may not impact prospective Porsche buyers as much as some other brands, but it does point to the fact that used car values are on the rise.
Problem is that as I sell mine to get a newer USED upgrade I will pay the price too?
Let's see, sell asap now and wait for market to stabilize and come down again? this might be a LONG wait
I think too many people saw the new Porsche commercial where it's showing you can do everything(picking up kids, hauling dirt, driving in snow, etc...) with it and use it as your primary or secondary car. Of course this is then driving up demand. LOL
Was at the dealer on friday having service done on the Cayenne.
Of course the showroom is a big magnet for most and i was drooling on a new 2011 Turbo S with a few extra options like PDK and custom stitching on seats, dash, sport chrono package etc.....
Priced at $217800.00 Cdn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (that is currently $226400 USD).
I would say that this kind of pricing may be a good reason why used ones values are going up!!!!!

I think the secret is getting out on how good of a deal the 996 is. I went to a retirement party on Friday and some guys from work were drooling on my car. One finally asked what I paid. They couldn't believe it.
One of the emailed me yesterday about how to go about finding one.
I showed that commerical to my wife. She loved the yellow 911 picking up the kids. If we had a used Speed yellow 996/997 at our local dealer, I don't know that i could stop her. Not that I would.
In the past few weeks the BMW dealer tried to buy back my 06 330i, the VW dealer actually called about my Jetta and Porsche sent me multiple emails on the 996 after it had been in. I asked VW if this wasn't just a come on to get me to trade up and the sales manager told me they were struggling to find good used cars at auction. He offered me a good price on the Jetta without me even hinting I was interested in a new car.
Now I'm absolutely keeping the fleet intact.
Its the same here in Australia...
I was at the local Porsche Centre last Wednesday where they normally have 10-12 used Porsches and a few BMW & MB cars on display. Last week they had 1 x Boxster, 1 x Cayman, 2 x 996's, 1 x GT3 and a couple of Cayennes - a total of 7 cars.
The sales manager was saying that they could not get good used Porsches anywhere but that there was an awful lot of (underserviced) rubbish out in the marketplace that they would not be interested in....
997 has a much prettier exterior and nicer interior for sure. But the center front console can't be deleted and not being able to let my leg lean over is tough for me. Plus for a decent one, it's at least another $10k.
I was just offered 19k for Trade-in value.
Retail through private seller seems to be around 22-25k around here - Midwest. Would love to get 24 for it. (if I decide to upgrade - there's a nice Speed Yellow Turbo on Cars.com in my price range...anybody know this car?

Parkplace Motors in Bellevue WA - generally advertises they have 50 Porsche in stock, along with as many other special interest cars. They sell to the Micro-softies and also Consign cars as they are moving up the food chain in $$$. But generally they will not purchase used cars. Recently they have been posting ads in the local paper and the PCA Club Mag looking to Buy Porsche's of any vintage? It may be the economy here as things are picking up for some folks. Microsoft Google and Boeing are hiring locally.
There is a shortage of used cars right now. If you are thinking of buying and trading in, it is a good time to do it. You can get all of the money for trade in if it's in good condition.
Spotted this one from local dealer. Says Automatic on AD but its Standard based on pics.
Very tempting to trade

2 tone interior looks nice.
Clark Howard was talking today about the used car market. Dealers need them and values are high. Sell high and buy low, right?
An interesting thread, given I'm kicking around the merits of selling mine. A quick look at Autotrader.ca today seems to confirm that there's more confidence in 996 pricing than there was a year ago, acknowledging that these are just asking prices, of course. Thanks all for the food for thought.
Used cars are going up in price because of the earthquake in japan. They need used cars bad. Check out the auctions and you will start seeing Japanese buying up the used cars. BMW in York PA. sent me a letter wanting to buy back both of my BMW's. If the price is right, there gone
By clicking on the OP's link and searching for all 1999-2004 996 Coupe' (sic) returned 20 hits. Of those, only three were being offered with a CPO. And the prices on those three all reflected about a $25,000 higher price compared to the others. Does that mean they just got new engines? Hmmmmm.
That would equate to 15%... a familiar percentage being bandied about on this forum...
Do you really get ahead when you sell in this market? - you may be getting a good buck for your car, but that means the market is more expensive to replace it, no?
I think auto manufacturers are willing to take in a good used car in order to upsell some buyers into a current model. A few buyers may consider moving into a lesser model vehicle to take "advantage", but those statistics may be minor.
If anyone is considering newer models, def look into incentives, whether lease or purchase. And negotiate a few thou off the sticker.

Yes, it absolutely does. There is no free lunch. Anyone telling you that a dealer is giving them top dollar for their used car and a great deal on the replacement is just falling for what they're telling him.
Glad I bought when I did 7 weeks ago.
I thought I got a pretty good deal at the time, but it does seem like others are pay more for similar or even older cars in the last couple of weeks.
I think if you have a solid, accident free, and well maintained (with docs to back it up) car the idea would be to sell it private and then go shopping.
Hell the prices in Panorama are ridiculous. If I could get that type of money for my car, I would consider buying a new 997.2
I just unloaded my 06 mazdaspeed6 last week. I posted it in autotrader and had 20 inquiries in 3 days. Kind of odd for manual transmission sedan.
Correct if you are replacing with another used car, but the new car market is still soft, so if you plan on selling your used to buy new you will definitely come out ahead. But if you're selling your used to just buy a newer used car then you will likely be no better off, or potentially worse off.
Back in 09 I bought my 04 40th Anniversary Edition which was in mint condition, 12,000 miles, and CPO for 2 years. At the time it was $46,000 (Edmunds & others showed PPO price of $48-52K). I probably paid more than I should, but I had my heart set on the Anniversary Edition - I think it is one of the better looking narrow bodies, plus the extra ponies and that nice GT Silver paint (my last 3 cars have been Silver - looks good, and pretty easy to keep looking clean). There was one I found in CT for $46K, but it had no CPO - just a 6 month warranty. I won't forget that day - the owner of the shop was dealing with an IMS failure in a 997 with 8000 miles in his showroom - giant puddle of oil covering part of the showroom. Anyways, it was during the banking downturn, and his finance company wouldn't for for the deal (trading in a 08 G37S Coupe with 9000 miles). I then found the one I bought at my local Porsche dealer - they had it there, and said it was sold. About 3 weeks later, it was still in the for sale section of their inventory, so I checked again, and he still said it was sold, but the guy was going through a divorce, and took his down payment back - I was back there a few days later and got approved with Porsche Credit at 5.9%, but after about a year I re-financed to 4.9%, and I got the payment down a little bit.
I do not see the prices going up. I do live in Colorado though so the market is not the best for a Porsche. I got a good deal on mine so worked out for me.
After a long lay off of owning one of these little German cars, raising 3 kids... yahdaah, yahdaah... But, now that I'm looking to re-enter the market, well, let's just say, I am on a different side of the fence than you guys. But with a Little luck and some serious snooping around.... I Hope to join you on the other side soon! Buzz.
Thanks man! I just called them and refinanced with them for 48 months - got approved right over the phone. The monthly payment is roughly the same as the one I have now, but in terms of interest charges over the life of the loan I am saving around $2800.00
Not only that, but they offer more ways of making your monthly payment. My previous note-holder would only deduct the payment from the savings account you have to have opened with them, and sometimes it was a bit of pain - now I can pay online with just using my checking account routing/transit number, payment books, autopay, etc.
I appreciate the referral to them!
Regards,
Steve
Yes - they said since they have never done business with me before, I need to fax my last 2 paystubs to them, plus the 15 day payoff calculation from my current note holder.
Hey what finance company is this? I am going through a credit union right now and I could use a lower interest rate. What is the website for 2.5% how much is the membership to join is there a yearly fee?
Thanks
