They both sound great and I have not had a single problem with either (been installed on my cars for over 15 years combined).

Now if this is true the Bad outweighs the good by miles, I can't think of using my car only when it's not raining...

Hi there!
I am hoping I posted in the right area this being my first post.
I am thinking of installing a K&N 57-7000 cold air intake system on my '04 996 convertible.
I have read good and bad things about this.
The Good:
* measurable power increase vs. standard OEM flat filter (+23 hp measured of a dyno testing)
* cool intake sound
The Bad:
* apparently it can be used only in good weather conditions...
Now if this is true the Bad outweighs the good by miles, I can't think of using my car only when it's not raining... what if I get caught in a thunderstorm? I have to hide under a bridge??
So the question is this:
* Do any of you have this filter setup installed?
* Does it really give the power increased promised?
* Is the warning about using it only in good weather a real threat or is it one of those things that the company writes only to protect themselves from any lawsuits that may arise from unhappy customers?

I too am considering installing a CAI into my 2K C4. I am looking at the Fabspeed version called the 996 Maxflo Competition intake (
$595
). I don't have an answer to your question in terms of wet weather; however, I will be following this thread to get some of the responses

The K&N CAI has a bad reputation for throwing CEL's by fouling the mass airflow sensor (especially on mk 1 cars).
I've had a great experience with the Evo CAI on both my 986 and 996. They both sound great and I have not had a single problem with either (been installed on my cars for over 15 years combined).

It's a motorsports proven product as most of the 996 and 997 cars in the Grand Am series use this system on their race cars.

I'm not a fan of aftermarket intake or exhausts on street cars, but I think the MAF problems have been due to over oiled filters. I do have one for sale from my car (the K&N intake kit, and I'm only asking $125+shipping), which was dynoed at 340.x hp -not that that's worth anything...
