from what I understand the IMS flange is sometimes replaced for leaking/seeping.

I found one invoice that took place 50k miles ago in April 2006, This invoice showed that my car had its flywheel replaced, RMS replaced, and the IMS bolts/housing.

That's what I was wondering is if the parts on there are now the 997 versions since this repair took place in 2006.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

also according to Porsche the IMS bearing itself was a "non-serviable part" and IIRC they are still not admitting that it is servicable, but some dealers are doing them anyhow - Mother seems to be looking the other way
I was looking through my records last night just to see what type of maintenance had been performed on my vehicle. I found one invoice that took place 50k miles ago in April 2006, This invoice showed that my car had its flywheel replaced, RMS replaced, and the IMS bolts/housing.
I understand the first two entries but what exactly does the last one mean? Does that mean that the IMS is now the updated (and unable to be replaced with the LNE solution) version?
Certainly thankful all of these items were addressed before it go to me!
NO. from what I understand the IMS flange is sometimes replaced for leaking/seeping. hey onlt change the seal, the seal bolts and sometimes the actual flange
check the service date...LNE is a new "fix" and wasnt available only a short time ago

There have been several updates and parts supersessions regarding the whole IMS assembly. In the early days an updated seal, flange and bolts were replaced if there was any suspected leakage when doing a RMS. Early replacement 3.4 motors from Porsche had updated IMS shafts and bearings. In the early years, '99 to about '01, '02 the only IMS issues that I heard about on these forums were IMS shaft breakages. They were very rare but a few happened and resulted in catastropic failure. It was said that the IMS bearing was increased in size as was the shaft diameter, and could not be retrofit into earlier motors.
I had this done 5k miles and 1 year ago.(before I knew about LN unfortunately).
My car was under CPO and I had a leak. They replaced the RMS seal, the whole clutch setup (I supplied the new OEM clutch kit to them). the upgraded case bolts, and the new upgraded IMS flange bolts.
I talked with the tech and asked him if the IMS was leaking. He said no but replacing the IMS bolts is now part of the process when addressing the RMS.
Makes it hard for me to justify the IMS retrofit now because the car is now out of CPO and everything "in there" is new except for the IMS bearing.
Yeah I knew this wasn't an LNE solution put in place but wondered if this meant the updated flange is the big one that the LNE removal tool can't work on. I guess I won't know until I remove the transmission when clutch change time comes.
That's what I was wondering is if the parts on there are now the 997 versions since this repair took place in 2006. I know Porsche has been continually updating the RMS and IMS components, just wondering what is in there now.
I have the same dilemma now too. I know eventually I'll be due for a clutch update but figured at the same time I'd consider the LNE upgrade as well. However with this new bit of news I don't know if it's even worth messing with. Granted it's been five years now but if this bearing has been addressed then maybe it's better left untouched? Who knows...I guess I'll have to cross that bridge when the clutch decides to give out on me.
NO - you cannot change the bearing size from the outside (not even sure you can switch sizes from the inside) the differance is HUGE! there is NO WAY a bigger bearing was put in thru the small hole - if this work was done in 06' you still have the factory bearing... AND imo it IS WORTH ADDRESSING
When I bought my 02 16 months ago it needed a clutch and a new RMS. Negotiated the price down and then had my local shop do the work, including updating the IMS bolts. Much like Fernando, this was before I knew about the LNE retrofit. Now the RMS is leaking again. The shop is doing the RMS again under their parts and labor warranty. I am paying for the cost of the LNE update and a few extra hours of labor. This is a fair deal that will finally give me a little peace of mind.
Whether it is 2% or 50%, this *#@ing IMS issue is a real drawback to 996 ownership. I feel sorry for the majority of owners who don't participate in forums, read magazines or join PCA and have no idea about the potential for catastrophy until it hits. Don't get me wrong, I love the car and completely understand and accept the cost of performance car ownership. But this issue is a bastard.
