To fill the gap of the old Nav disk unit, bought and installed the Porsche CD drawer.

On my Avic, I ran the mic to the factory location in the dash, iPOD cable to the glove box.

However, be sure when you do the IPOD to used a 3 wire Audio and Video connection to use the IPOD video capability.

On the Sub-Woofer issue, We used the Bose AMP, but the Bose sub isn't routed directly from the head unit so you can't lower its relative volume from there.

My installer felt that the Kenwood units' line outs would not be high enough volume to drive the Bose AMP and give me good volume at highway levels so he used the high volume speaker-outs instead but put a resister on them to moderate the levels by half or so to match the Bose input.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Pulled out the PCM1 with a bad screen from my '02 C4 that Porsche wanted $3800 to replace (with a refurb!) and put in the new Kenwood built-in Nav with Bluetooth, DVD, Voice command, IPOD control, MP3 (CD or 4.8 gig DVD) disk capability, Sirius, HD-AM for much less.
My installer (Depot Auto Radio in White Plains NY- ask for Harry, tell him Steve sent you) did a great job in fabricating a custom frame which matches the finish and color of the surround. To fill the gap of the old Nav disk unit, bought and installed the Porsche CD drawer.
Only hitch was having to put a manual volume control on the Bose sub woofer (which can't be controlled from the head unit) as it was overpowering and muddy-ing up the sound until we turned in down a bit.
Feels like I'm piloting the Starship Enterprize with the voice command (wife thinks I'm nuts as I'm now talking to my car).
Really nice!!
All these recent posts on installing these double din units is really tempting me to have a go at it!!
STOP the posts before I break under the pressure and have this mod done!!

My 9140 is being delivered today. Just curious where you positioned the following:
1. Voice command button.
2. Microphone
3. Ipod cable (if you have one)
Thanks -

Jeremy,
We put the voice recognition button at the base of the handbrake (but not under it), running the wire under and through the console.
The mic went to the left of the rear view mirror near the cowl. Still tough to get the unit to recognize the command with top down driving on a highway but I used a sound meter that I use for balancing my home audio system and couldn't find anyplace else more shielded from road noise but still within range of voice.
(Where is there a "mic in the dash"??)
The IPOD and USB input wires go to the glove box.
RallyJon,
On the Sub-Woofer issue, We used the Bose AMP, but the Bose sub isn't routed directly from the head unit so you can't lower its relative volume from there. The Kenwood must be putting out more bass then the Porsche unit so at first the sub was overpowering all the other frequencies. So, we installed a high wattage potentiometer (a resister/volume ****) to manually tune it down and balance it with the other speakers.

Other Tips/Issues
I've put just about every song I love on an MP3 DVD that the unit will play randomly . A 4.8 GIG DVD disk loaded with MP3s will get you over a 1000 tracks so don't find the need to use the IPOD too much.
However, be sure when you do the IPOD to used a 3 wire Audio and Video connection to use the IPOD video capability.
Another IPOD/ DVD MP3 tip is to drop the album art as it really slows the load time when moving randomly through tracks.
You also may want to consider the well known hack to by pass the DVD video block when moving (see the Kenwoodforums.com for how and other misc tips). While I wouldn't watch a movie while driving, a video concert can be viewed by your passenger and listened to by the driver.
