Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am new to this forum.I just purchased a 2001 Carrera and the handle that makes the driver's seat go up and down was missing.I purchased a handle from a Porsche dealer and tried to install it,but was not succesful.Am I missing something. It could just be that the part inside the seat needs to be replaced also. The seat is too low.I feel like I am sitting in a hole. I really like the car,and this is a new experiense for me,because I own some Corvettes. I would appreciate some feedback Thank you, Vince

POST 2Original post

Vince, I don't think they made too many changes in the seat mechanism between 02 & 03. On my 2003 mostly manual seat, forward/back - up down = manual, seat back tilt = electric. There are two controls on the side & one under left knee. The handle just slides through a hole in the switch escutcheon onto a shaft, attached to the adjusting mechanism. If you can slide it on to the shaft and nothing happens when you turn it maybe your bowden cable is disconnected. To get the seat up I have to be out of the car or have very little weight on it. See part #19 in illustration – 996 205 8 17 817-18 in the 996 Katolog.PDF accessible from the Pelican parts catalog page., http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf...96_KATALOG.pdf

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I thank you for your response, but I bought a lever from the Porsche dealer, and I installed it, and works just fine. The seat goes up and down like you said. When you want a raise it, you don't sit it when you want lowered it, you sit it. Thanks again Vince

You will have better luck if you post a photo of the car - works wonders for the Karma...
