But I do know that my SOP was absolutely affected by the changes, and that my car's ran better times at DE's after the modification.

Suggestion

A few people have upgraded to EVO or carbon fiber (TRG makes one), but the common consensus is that there is no real improvement in handling using upgraded strut braces for a variety of reasons, the most important being the front is pretty light unless you install a 2nd engine up there

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i am considering buying front and rear strut brace bars........du they really work....any thoughts.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWA:IT&ih=025

POST 2Original post

I cannot speak specifically to Schnell products as I have absolutely no experience with them. However, I have added front strut braces in my '93 RS America, '99 Carrera, and '01 Carrera. I detected a very noticable stiffening of the front end as a result. I am not an engineer, nor a mechanic. I cannot explain why the front cross sheetmetal in 996's is not enough to make the strut towers more than stiff enough. But I do know that my SOP was absolutely affected by the changes, and that my car's ran better times at DE's after the modification. This is an opinion. Not an engineering response.

Do you not like the strut brace already in your car? The stock strut braces are "hidden" in the trunk underneath the plastic pieces. A few people have upgraded to EVO or carbon fiber (TRG makes one), but the common consensus is that there is no real improvement in handling using upgraded strut braces for a variety of reasons, the most important being the front is pretty light unless you install a 2nd engine up there Also, see this thread from 2 years ago on this topic. As noted there, the factory provided front strut brace is the same one that comes on the Cup cars... Here are some pics of the stock and aftermarket (TRG, I believe) strut braces: STOCK RtHandStrut.JPG LtfHandStrut.JPG AFTERMARKET (stock shown as well) StrutBrace.JPG -td

If you enjoy wasting money then buy and aftermarket additional strut brace.

TD, Do you have a link to a DIY thread that covers installing a 2nd engine in the trunk?

POST 6Original post

A roll bar would stiffen it better than those strut bars...

POST 8Original post

I've heard that the front one doesn't do much (I have a carbon one that I don't even have on my car right now!), but that the rear actually does stiffen things a bit since there is no rear strut brace at that location. Good luck.
