Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am moving to the UK for professional reasons and will be in Europe for 5years at least. After looking at the option of bringing my car there, it looks like it is do-able but will really be a pain. So the deciding factor is going to be how much I can sell my car for in the US. If I lose my shirt I ship it oversea - and if I can get enough $$ I will sell it and take advantage of the low FX rate with the GBP to get one over there. The question is how much can I get for it in this market - given that I would need to sell it in the next 30days; here are the major specs: -2003 C4S with 50kmiles - PSE - Onboard computer (GPS and all) - Brand new clutch (250miles on it) - RMS changed (no problems with the old one but took care of it during the clutch replacement) - Brand new set of summer and winter tires (both on stock wheels) - 45k maintenance performed @ 49k I bought the car at 45kmiles 6months ago - and given that I could not get all the maintenance history, I spent $3k on maintenance, changing everything (clutch, 45k, RMS, bent wheel arm etc...). They went from bumper to bumper including chassis inspection and all. I am hoping to get at least $38k for it - is it fair in this market? I don't need re-assurance, but an objective answer :-) Here are some pics Thanks

Nice C4S. CPO? Extended Warranty? Don't have a lot of experience with the market, but I'd search around Carmax, Autotrader, and your local Dealer inventory to gauge where you sit in the price range. I paid more for my 04 C4S , at the end of October here in NC. Good Luck.

POST 3Original post

Of course your price is very reasonable, finding a buyer...well that's a different story. Check this board for the long list of people who can't find a buyer. Right now similar C2s (year and mileage) are selling for $10K less and TT can be found for $10K more, so buyers have a lot to choose from. Good luck with your sale.

POST 4Original post

Your price is very reasonable for a great looking car (I'm biased of course). But, it's winter, the economy sucks and the 996 market in general is incredibly soft. Whether you can sell depends how much someone wants your specific car. GL with the sale. Is that Atlas Gray BTW??

I presume you refer to the interior... yes

POST 6Original post

Nice C4S. I have a Lapis Blue 2002 C4S as well, with 60k miles, metropol blue interior. Good Luck with the sale. The more you get for yours the more mine is worth. I would say your price is good, but the time of year isn't. You'll have better luck selling in the spring or early summer.

Nope - no Atlas Gray interior color was offered. I was referrring to exterior color. On this computer it looks like Lapis Blue. Is that right? I like the rear wiper and what looks like the thicker leather wheel. Nice car.

POST 8Original post

You would probably lose less money by shipping it overseas than selling it here and getting another one there.

POST 9Original post

My opinion. Take it with you, you will regret it if you don't. Furthermore, you can sell it over there and recoup most if not all your transportation costs. Porsches, and everything else, cost much more in Europe. Mind you, you will have to deal with very expensive fuel and ownership costs. You won't be able to buy a similar car over there for what you can sell yours here.

POST 10Original post

I don't want to depress you, but I've been shopping around pretty hard the last few weeks. The 996 market is nutty right now, and like others said, finding a buyer is very hard. I spent the last two weeks of December looking at 03 and 04 996s and had dealers nationwide calling me back, sometimes twice a day. I wouldn't say they were begging, but the best numbers I got was low 30s on '04 C2s - and that was with CPO. I don't recall inquiring about an 03, and dont remember if I saw any C4S's. The '03 C4Ss are selling at auction between 25 and 30k. In July they were bringing 37k. A year ago, they were getting around 43k at auction. Being a dealer would tack on another 9-10k, your price is just at or definitely under what would be seen as current "retail". The bad news is dealers can't seem to sell them when they have 'em, and are dumping them, and just not buying them up to flip. The good news is there are not many to be found right now. I was told that in a few months, a boatload of off leases will start showing up. This is because when economic times were good, Porsche, Merc, and BMW were leasing cars like crazy. When they are turned in, everyone is concerned about being able to sell them.

POST 11Original post

Despite the soft USA market do not take that car to the UK. It will be a lot of trouble to deal with importing it, and then possibly selling it over there. With left hand drive it will be extremely unsafe to attempt to drive it over there in any sort of traffic,--and that's all they have in the UK now.

POST 12Original post

for what i have seen (looking for a 996 myself) you'd be lucky to get anything in the low 30's especially since you need to sell so fast and cant just sit on it. have you considered an ebay auction? you WILL get less on ebay but if you price it right it will be gone in 1 week.

POST 13Original post

Probably $33K - $34K, if you can find a buyer.

Edgy, you are right, I stand corrected. I forgot that the Brits are the only Europeans that drive on the opposite side.

That sounds like accurate info right now.... The returning leases will be the next shoe to drop. Funny, I'm driving a loaner from Audi, a nice new '09 A4 Quattro 3.2 S-Line with paper plates, and my neighbors think I'm nuts -- thinking I bought a new car. It's a weird time, like nobody's buying anything.... p.s. I can even add to that my Audi dealer has 3 beautiful R8s in stock and they are ready to swing some deals, but everyone's on the sidelines....

POST 16Original post

If you HAVE TO sell in the next 30 days, list it for 33k, and it will probably go for about 30k. Seems hard to believe, but is unfortunately true. One can buy a 996 GT3 in the mid 40s these days.

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 6154395

Where are you finding gt3's in mid 40s? That sounds crazy low. Nice car. I'm probably looking for a c4 in the near future. I can't decide exactly what I want tho. Ideally I'd love to trade my M3 + cash, but I know that will only make finding the right car harder

Been on the market for more than 2 months... http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/ctd/979241975.html Also see, https://rennlist.com/forums/996-gt2-...9-xxx-huh.html

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow... that's all very depressing. Given the ****ty market, that actually makes me feel like taking the car over to the UK... Given that my company will give me a substantial car allowance, I will probably start a lease at the same time until the 911 is registered. $30k for a C4S is ridiculous... that's just 22kEur while this car in France or Germany (LHD) sells for about 50KEur

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 6156669

Wow crazy. Yuck on the auto, but crazy price. Shame I can only afford 1 car at a time, so it has to be a semi-practical DD. gt3 doesnt really fit that category - or at least not once something breaks

POST 21Original post

You can now get a 2005 997 C2 for 39k. See Buy it Now EBay Auction Here

That is hard to believe!

POST 23Original post

+1 to that! Anyone know anything about this car? Is there a story?

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 6158328

Sad but true. My 2000 C2 is worth about 10k I think

POST 25Original post

Quotes source post: 6158908

In that case ill give you $11k and lets call it even?

POST 26Original post

Wow, what a nice blue C4S! And for what I paid for my plain old '00 C2 two years ago! If you can sell it for 50k Euro in France or Germany, take it to the UK, and split the shipping with the future buyer! Worth not losing so much money dumping it here - or is it? Guess I'll be keeping my car until it's worthless!
