Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently put on new ContiSport2 N2 on my 996 C2. The back have not been as good as my last set. anyhow, I was out this AM pushing the car a little and notcied when I stopped that my back tires where smoking.... it was not the engine nor the brakes (they were pretty hot though) Why would a tire smoke like that? Any idea? Or are they just shot and need to be replaced. They only have 6.000 kms on them are already a little worn.

POST 2Original post

What was the weather like? Did they smell like burning rubber?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Air temperature was around 10-13 C, and it was close to smelling burnt rubber. Rings a bell?

POST 4Original post

Water in pavement? Maybe mix of hot rubber/steam? I get a slight burning tire smell sometimes just because the rubber on high perf tires is very soft. You can often smell it as you exit the car.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It was damp on some parts of the road. So it could be that. But my buddies driving along did not have that smoke. One is running Dunlop and the other is running Michelin.

POST 6Original post

Probably nothing then. In certain combo's of temp and humidity, I've seen it happen with winter tires (winter tires are softer, but not as soft as hi-perf car tires) even on my pickup truck. Just make sure nothing is rubbing etc.

POST 7Original post

If it happens again feel how hot the tread surface is to touch.
