Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Twice now in the past few months, I've noticed a few small spots of red fluid near the rear driver side of the car, just a little behind the axle of the wheel. Last night, I took a look again and took the picture below. Given the location and color of the leak, I'm pretty sure this is some kind of a coolant tank or hose leak... also, my coolant appears to be very slightly down from the "min" line when checked in the engine bay. Can anyone confirm this diagnosis? Thanks!

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Also, I forgot to mention it's a 2003 C4S; here's a recent picture:

POST 3Original post

Nice looking car. It could be coolant leaking from the reservoir which is generally above that area, or it could be something else. If you put some one your finger, does it smell like anti freeze? Coolant has a pretty distinct smell.

POST 4Original post

Could also be from the AOS, it is located on top of the engine right above where your drip is located. Most of the coolant tank leaks tend to be back towards the tail pipe. I would recommend getting it on a lift so you can get some light up there and perhaps an inspection mirror to determine the source of the leak. Let us know what you find.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, after narrowing it down from reading the boards to either (i) the coolant cap (cheap) or (ii) the coolant tank (expensive), I have now narrowed it down to the expensive option (darn, I hate how life works that way sometimes!) I put the new "04" cap that I ordered on yesterday, but it still leaked a bit tonight in the garage. I will call my indy shop tomorrow to book it in. In passing, a few months ago I had the indy shop drop my engine to do the IMS, RMS, and to fix a funny transmission leak that I had. I assume in doing so that there were a number of coolant hoses and whatnot that had to be disconnected and then reconnected. I never had a coolant leak until I had my engine dropped. Is it possible that this leak could be the result of something that was tweaked / not reinstalled correctly when the engine came down?

POST 6Original post

It'd be hard to tweak something on the coolant tank from removing the engine. Also, what color is your car? It looks very nice, makes me miss my pretty Carrera 4S. One of the best looking cars Porsche's made IMO. The factory wheels/rockers, wider rear and tail light strip all work very well together, enjoy!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Ahmet. The color is Meridian Silver Metallic; it's like a silver with a mercury undertone that sometimes appears more silver or more brown depending on the light. I hear you on tweaking the tank, but I'm sure that there's hoses and whatnot that need to be reconnected when the engine goes back in - I'm wondering if one of these could have been nicked or not put on straight.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just got the car back, and it was a funny little L-shaped hose that was leaking and needed to be replaced. My mechanic said that this was one of those "improved part" issues - the new L he installed had been changed a few times by Porsche. Anyway, no harm done, and not an inexpensive repair.

POST 9Original post

Very nice looking C4S, glad you coolant leak was relatively minor.
