I was shocked at how much the stock mufflers weigh when I installed my Fister sport mufflers.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I weighed my C4S with me in it and 1/4 tank of fuel - - 3,580 pounds. I need to put it on a diet for TT next year and really need some creative ideas. Challenge: I do not want to go for the obvious first since the car is still a daily driver and I want to keep it that way for a couple more years. Can I remove the A/C? Sure. But I like it in the summer. So the challenge is to remove things (Lighten things up) without sacraficing too much yet in daily drivability. Can you offer up ideas?? THANKS SO MUCH.

POST 2Original post

if you have heavy rubber mats, get rid of those! spare tire and tools/compressor of course.... passenger seat if you are that serious.... A/C would be best.

POST 3Original post

Easy to remove rear seating...and to reinstall when necessary.

POST 7Original post

For starters you picked a heavy car to begin with and it will be hard to loose any noticeable weight without a lot of expense and forgoing daily comfort items. Unsprung weight will make the biggest difference, so start with that first. People will laugh, because this goes against what most want to do for looks, but go with smaller and lighter C2 calipers and discs. You dont have the power to warrant those Big Reds, and they are actually like an anchor on each wheel, they make the car feel less nimble and harder to change directions at speed. Lighter wheels and tires will greatly help as well. Doing this will make a huge performance difference. Actually, most important is your driving skills. I learned from years of racing that everything on the machine is secondary to the driver level of skill. Once your skill level is quite high, it will be apparant what need to be done to the machine to increase speeds and lower lap times.

POST 9Original post

As Nick pointed out, you really started with the wrong car. Personally I don't understand trying to put a C4S (or Turbo) on a wight savings program when it weighs so damn much to begin with. With that said, are you doing a TT against other C4S cars? If that's the case, your skill will be more important than the car.

1. Dump the FWD portion of your drive train 2. Cut down the widebody to a narrow body and smaller wheels and tires 3. Remove the sunroof and all related gear 4. Remove the A/C and all related gear and plumbing 5. Remove all carpeting and insulation and the other 3 seats or Spend three days at Skip Barber Racing School

POST 13Original post

I was shocked at how much the stock mufflers weigh when I installed my Fister sport mufflers. You can get much lighter aftermarket mufflers. I think you can also save some weight with a lightweight racing battery.

POST 14Original post

I bet the back seats and spare tire have a combined weight of at least 60 lbs. That's free and easy to start with. And another 30-40 lbs. for the muffler delete pipes vs. stock cans. There's nearly 100 lbs for $150 if you get the delete pipes from ebay. Those weight numbers are just a guess from handling those parts, so they may not be 100% accurate.

POST 15Original post

I weigh in at a whopping 155lbs.... any chance there is some "spare weight" in the drivers seat

I know. 2 DE events and now I am on the hunt for racing seats...

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 7844224

I second that. Also remove rear seats, lighter exhaust system, lighter wheels/ brakes etc... Depends how much money you want to spend. Carbon engine lid and bonnet/ doors, plexi rear window, light-weight battery...?

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 7843984

I disagree. I'd say the big reds are to accommodate the additional weight of the C4S and repeated, heavy use (i.e. at the track).

POST 19Original post

is the OP planning to track the car or just wanting to zoom between traffic lights? (that wasnt clear to me as to the reason for the lightweighting and TT'izing)

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 7844783

Agree with Michael, the crap *** 4 pots they put on these heavy pigs is laughable. They just can't stop the C4S/Turbo for a consistent amount of time in a track situation. I got maybe 15 minutes out of my brakes (new PFC pads and new SRF fluid) and the pads got overheated (which isn't easy to do). The only cure for these cars is the 6pot caliper and 350mm upgrade. If anybody wants a set of Turbo calipers (front) let me know

POST 21Original post

Fastest and easiest would be front passenger seat. Then with easy access on that side if you are in a hurry take a razor to the carpet and back seats hehehe just kidding.

POST 22Original post

are you planning to put anything in.. like HD Video Cameras for youtube posts ? probably go viral and get signed by Top Gear I am just playing,.... sorry OP I know your Q is serious

All: thanks for the ideas. Keep them coming! QuickX - That is incredible. Thank you! I run the car at the track and doing HPDE's today. I will be running the car in Time Trials with NASA and others next year. I checked my lap times and am "Almost" competitive in TTA today (regional drivers, not nat'l). I figure the driver can lose another 2-3 seconds on a 2.5 mile road course. But I am really seeing how heavy she is. Let's just say the car is not as nible as the older 911's. I love the car, however.

1) read TT rule book. 2) find another car Sounds like you are close. The old maxim of "how fast do you want to go? How much do you want to spend" is coming into play. Tons of great advice on what to ditch already given.

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Am I maxed out? Or do I need more cowbell?? Great questions. First, I am not maxed out on my driving. Are any of us? Really?!?! I figure on a 2.5 Mile course, I have AT LEAST 2+ seconds and will be competitive in the region in TT. I won't win, but I will always be in the pack. This is with a pure stock pig, race pads and decent rubber. Second, I know this may seem strange, but I'm not looking for more juice. The car has plenty for what I want. I want to start getting a little more nible is all. The car is so heavy that it really wants one line through corners as the speeds rise. (There is a lot of Mass there to throw around) Only problem is, that is not reality. We all need to share the track and still get good times. That means driving off line a lot of the time and being flexible. Nible really helps. Last, I know this car will never be as nible as an Exige. But I have to admit...the engineers at Porsche do great work. This car is amazing, considering the weight, engine location, etc. I know they over-engineer a lot. But, my hat's off to them.

POST 31Original post

Seat time will amazingly get you to the place where you feel like the car is lighter and more nimble.
