Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I tried to skip step 16 - 18 on the b&m install instructions but think I accidentally popped off the cable end from the shift cable.. What do I do now?

POST 2Original post

post a pic, the reverse end has two components.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here are some pics.. So basically could I just eye ball it and plop the end head back onto the cable without counting threads? I was fiddling with the right linkage (Up+down cable) and the head popped off.. Basically, the settings is for the neutral position right? THe shift is going to travel the same distance regardless right?

POST 4Original post

OK, we're here to help...The shift link you separated basically controls the shifter position. The normal resting position from the factory usually has about 4-5 threads showing in the base (towards the back of the car) of the case. You want to have the threaded dowl pretty far in there. Pop it back in, make sure the case has about 4-5 threads showing and you're good to go. Austin

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

SUCKS!!! gotta take it out again? so basically, with 4-5 threads showing that would move the shifter closer towards the driver so that I wouldnt be punching the radio everytime I get it into third? That wouldn't lengthen neutral to first would it? So when both cables are at the neutral position, the right cable is about 3/4 - 1 inch higher

POST 6Original post

Those pics bring back some memories! I screwed up a couple things before getting it right too....

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After re-reading AUstins post, I think I got it backwards.. Did he mean that I didn't have the cable end in deep enough? 4-5 threads showing from the openning hole under the springs or right above the metal rod? If it's 4-5 threads showing below the springs, then that would make neutral further up and further away from me right?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oh, my impression of the ssk... It feels great!!! a whole lot better then the wrong under carriage unit I had installed. 3rd to 4th is alot easier. I wish I could compare it with the right version under carriage unit to see if the feel is any different. Yes it's a little firmer and yes it's notchier then stock (in a perfect world this would be shorter and smoother then it is) but that is expected bc the throw is so short.. Definitely takes getting use to..

POST 9Original post

Next time, tell B&M to include my DVD in the box. One of these days I will contact them about their wonderful instructions made on a copy machine.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok last question, 3-5 threads sticking out from where? Red line, blue line, or purple line

POST 11Original post

The` middle line you drew, colors not showing well on my machine.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ok ok I know I said the last question was my LAST question but I have another stupid question.. Counting the thread shown from the middle (blue) line, is that with the spring compressed (in) or when its in its regular state (out)? Does anyone have a picture of the retaining pin/clip for the other (reverse) cable? THe dealer doesn't seem to have it in stock. I know it's somewhere in the car or in my garage.. Just wish I knew what I was looking for..

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

forget the second ? about posting a pic of the retaining clip.. toolpants, loren, and c4s answered it on renntech..

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, finally got everything off.. Took 10 mins.. this is how I had it installed the first go around.. Notice no threads showing.. Driving the car felt fine.. Shifting was good.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

BTW, on the left cable, is the blue end suppose to be on the bottom as the black one on the right side, or does it matter?

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Then I re-adjusted the right cable to show 3-4 threads.. Am I counting from the right reference point?

POST 17Original post

Yes. You should have unused groves there. The number varies from car to car. I have seen 4-9. If you look real close for wear marks you might be able to tell exactly how many were not used. You do not have to be exact as the spacing of the groves is very small. Dont forget to close the spring loaded keeper or the cable will pop out. Saw an EVO shift link in your picture. Did you give up on putting that in.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought the evo but opted not to use it bc my original cable end looked fine.. Plus I took yours and c4s's advice.. (bought an extra stock end for backup) I sent the evo back to the store..

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Since I lost the stock retaining clip and the dealer didnt' have any in stock.. I went to sears and found this.. I think it will work..
