There is nothing wrong with using an inside patch or quality plug as long as it's installed properly.

Any recommended shops in the LA (Westside or Calabasas areas?) that will take care and not damage my rims, etc.?

Should I have them put the spare tire/wheel on and replace the punctured tire with a new one and use that as my new spare?

Or is my best option to replace both rear tires and to use the one good one as a spare in which case I will have two spares (one in the car and one in my garage)?

guess i will replace the two rear tires then depending on if puncture is fixable (makes me nervous to think i'd have a patch in a hole on my rear tire though) - likely will replace both tires to be safe.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I wouldn't worry at all about having it fixed with respect to the durability of the tire.
I was washing my car today and noticed a nail stuck in one of my rear tires (bummer, I know.) The car has about 9K miles and all tires are original.
All pressure is still in the tire and I'm pretty sure I can make it to the tire place safely to have them remove the tire since I will leave the nail in place.
What is the best course of action to take? Should I have them put the spare tire/wheel on and replace the punctured tire with a new one and use that as my new spare? If I do this then my back tires will be uneven (with one new and one with 9K miles on it).
Or is my best option to replace both rear tires and to use the one good one as a spare in which case I will have two spares (one in the car and one in my garage)? Any advice appreciated please -
Thanks in advance,
Rio
I didn't know that the 40th Anniversary cars had full-size spares. My 2000 C2 Cab came with a donut spare.
Depending on where the puncture is you can have the tire shop plug it. If it is not repairable (eg. the puncture is in the sidewall) then you should replace both rear tires.
Good luck.
you are right.. just looked and it is not a full size spare. guess i will replace the two rear tires then depending on if puncture is fixable (makes me nervous to think i'd have a patch in a hole on my rear tire though) - likely will replace both tires to be safe. Any recommended shops in the LA (Westside or Calabasas areas?) that will take care and not damage my rims, etc.?
You can plug most hols or patch it from the inside. However, did you take a close look at the inside half of the rear tread. Your are getting close to the life cycle of rear tires, which generaly last an average of 10,000 miles.
Only one shop here plugs tires, if you can find one there, do that. If not, patch it, then wear them both until you really need new ones.
Don't be nervous with a plug or patch. I've driven lots of safe miles that way.
It sounds like you're pretty close to replacement time on those rear tires anyway (they usually last 10K). But as long as the puncture is at least an inch away from the edge of the tire, then it's easily repairable. I wouldn't worry at all about having it fixed with respect to the durability of the tire.
I've had 3 nail punctures in the last 10 months and I've had them all plugged without any problems. It's tough finding a reputable shop so you may want to ask your dealer where they have there tires done. That's how I found the current tire shop that I use.
Never replace only one tire on a Porsche.
Good luck. Nice car
There is nothing wrong with using an inside patch or quality plug as long as it's installed properly. Don't waste your money on two new rear tires for that. Spend it on some suspension pieces instead and you'll thank us for it.
earlyapex!!!!!3 punctures in 10 months???!!!!! wow!!!! are you sure you are driving within road limits???!!!!just jocking my friend!!!
i had 4 in 8 months with my 964....and all 4 were plugged withno prob....
it is a waste of money if you but brand new ones.....
spend these money somewere else.....
Thanks for all of the great advice. I got it patched/fixed today and all is well. They told me I had at least another 4-5K on my rear tires and they looked in great shape on the inside so all is now well.
yes, had it done on monday at byron woodley tires on pico & 14th st. - done in 10 minutes for $15 bucks no problem.
thanks for the advice, this is a great community and can't wait to give back when a topic comes up that I know something about...
