But couldn't I adjust the cable myself by tightening the bolt connected to the hand brake?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Which Mod should I do first? I don't want to spend too much on the cosmetic aspect of the car but the fix wings do look nice.. Who has the best looking wing? I think i'm going to go with the x74 only bc its cheaper and I don't need the added adjustment variables. Like my golf swing, I just want to set it and forget it..

POST 2Original post

In your case, I would go with the suspension first... Can't go wrong with x74.. if you are going to add a wing, you should add a body kit on along with it because I think it will look awkward with a big wing and no kit to match it. IMHO ALso, not sure how that will effect the aerodynamics of the car.. anyone care to chime in? If you are going to go the wing route, I would go for the GT3 mk. 2 (I'm biased ) or Misha's GT2-style wing. Good luck with your choices!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

that's my thought also.. I want a nice looking conservative wing that will enhance my rear but at the same time, i'm not ready to do the full body aero kit thing... how much would one of those kits set me back? would a little wing look ok on a c2 minus aero panels and flares?

POST 4Original post

A kit can run you around at least a couple thousand (front, side, rear and wing) before paint and installation. Not sure if you want to go down that route just yet. I think a subtle wing could definitely work, but why not just install the suspension first? It would improve the look of the car and not to mention your 996's handling and drivability. Plus, if you ever do decide to go down the body kit route you still have the option open to have a bigger, more aggressive rear spoiler.

POST 6Original post

Suspension will be much better bang for the buck IMO...also, definitely take a look at what kind of front spoiler you need when adding a rear wing--I know at least on the older cars, if you added a whale tail you needed to put the little rubber valance on the front as well, otherwise you upset the aerodynamics to the point where the car actually wants to take off the ground. It's funny what a tiny little lip on the front of a bumper can do in terms of downforce....

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

unanimous.. I guess i'll just keep the c2 plan ole stock c2 for now.. But the wing does make the car look purty!

POST 11Original post

Suspension first and the X74 is a great choice.

POST 12Original post

Definately get suspension first... Performance over asthetics.

POST 13Original post

aesthetics versus performance i guess you could tell yourself that a wing makes downforce, if thats the ticket, go for the full aerokit treatment.

POST 14Original post

I guess when you have a GT3 Clubsport and are looking for a Turbo S, you have all the performance you need

POST 15Original post

Buy the suspension and sell the golf clubs for a wing!

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I wish my clubs were worth that..

POST 17Original post

Suspension, at least RoW 030. If you do add a wing you must add a front lip as well. When I put the wing on mine it did get a little squirrely at 135, with the lip(TT) solid and true at 155. I did'nt think it would be that big a deal on a C4S but it was.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Are the R0w 030 cheaper then the x74? I'm thinking the row030 would be a waste of money if i'm already planning on upgrading my suspension. If i'm going to do it, I should go for the better product right?

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

BTW, cars in the shop today.. Again they said the clanking sound is the engine shutting off and that is absolutely normal.. I was able to reproduce the rattling from the passenger door with the tech in the car.. Hopefully they will have that and the wind noise resolved.. I have this terrible feeling that i'm stuck with the clanking sound. Maybe it's time to trade up..

POST 20Original post

Is the door rattle happening when driving with the door closed and the window in the up position? If yes, this noise does happen and is sometimes hard to identify the source. I had that in my last car's driver's side and it turned out to be that thin, long metal "thing" at the front (hing part) of the door that limits the travel of the door and prevents it from "over-opening" when you open it. When the door is closed, it moves freely inside its track and makes a metallic rattle that can be hard to find but easy to cure once identified. I hope that this helps.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes the rattling occurs when the door is shut and the window is up, however I haven't tested it with the window down but with the wind noise I doubt i'd hear anything. I'll have them look at the hinges and that metal bar you're talking about.. Thanks

POST 22Original post

No problem. Oh, and by the way, if you get a rattle from the rear of the car when going over sharp bumps in the road that makes it sound like a beat up NYC taxi, that is another common one that's hard to find. It would almost sound like a loose heat-shield or muffler clamps or something like that. Not a heavy loose component sound but a light, annoying metallic sound. If you or anyone else gets that, I'll bet that it is the sound of the parking brake internals rattling. Apparently, if the parking brake is set to engage at a low level (handle-wise), the drum shoes and other "parts" can rattle in there. Have your mechanic adjust it by taking up some slack in the parking brake cables and greasing certain parts inside in the parking brake drum area.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Luckily for me, no such rattle from under the car.. (fingers crossed). But couldn't I adjust the cable myself by tightening the bolt connected to the hand brake? I noticed it while installing the ssk.

POST 24Original post

You could adjust it yourself but there may still be a few pieces that rattle in there unless they are well coated with some kind of guck.

POST 25Original post

Thank Alon my car makes that sound, I guess I'll check that. As far as suspension compared to wing, the suspension would give you more joy. The M030 is kind of soft for real track work, but is much better than stock. You won't be disappointed if you dont track the car, and add some larger bars(GT3) if the roll stiffness is not enough. As far as the height I would agree it does not lower enough, but I like it because I don't have to be careful on every driveway. I have an aero front bumper and it makes scrapes so much more then stock when I had aftermarket springs. You also can't go wrong with the X74. As far as wings I would go for the Aero Kit that is from the GT3 cars. Its factory and it actually increase the value of your car if you use this kit compared to aftermarket kits. I personally find the GT3 wing one of the better looking one too.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so its between the m030, x74, and the h&r springs w/ bilstein shocks... I'm not too worried about ride quality.. Its a sports car not a lux sedan.. I had more fun and pushed the car harder on my nsx. go figure.

POST 27Original post

Good choice Redduck. You will be happy that you went with the upgraded suspension first. Thats always a rule of thumb for all 911_suspension first before anything else.

POST 28Original post

If ride not a concern I say the X74 as the factory can't be wrong. You could always add GT3 bar if its not enough.
