Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I don't think so but I am not 100% sure. I think the VIN only tells you the body style (coupe or cab) and that it is a 996 series (but does not tell you whether it is a C2, C4, C4S or Turbo).
I think the options sticker inside the trunk lid will tell you what you want to know.
Yes you can.
The 13 character from left is either 1 or 4.
1 = 997
4 = 997S
This, however is not true for RoW cars.

And interestingly, I just checked that VIN number and it is a 996 cab not a 997!
But then the 997 cab isn't out yet is it?
No, the VIN would not tell you if it was a C4. However, I can tell you it's not a C4 because of at least two reasons. One, C4's came standard with silver calipers. Second, the spare tire on the C4 is a collapsible type which goes under the trunk floor.
