Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The 996 manual states "use only oils approved by Porsche. See parts catalog." Probably a mobil one product, but I am not sure. Can I use RedLine? Thanks. Alex

POST 2Original post

Mobil one seems to be the choice for street driving and Redline is for the track for most P_drivers. Redline is for people who really pushes the car hard on the street/track.

POST 3Original post

Approved oils are Mobil or Shell synthetic gear oil 75W90. http://renntech.org/forums/index.php...&code=dit_mtoc You could use any sythetic ger oil as long as it meets the same specs.

POST 5Original post

I think only Mobilube PTX and Shell Transaxle oil are approved. I don't think Mobilube PTX is the same as Mobil 1 transmission oil.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I will go with a 75W90. The reason for my question is that Red Line makes a 70W80 GL-4 transmission oil and 75W90 gear oil. I have always used the 70W80 in the transmission of my BMW race car and the 75W90 in the diff. I was unsure what to use in the porsche because of the 911s transmission/diff combo. Alex
