Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

it seems nobody talks about the fabspeed muffler bypass on their 996.. i've had one on my cab since the beginning and love it.. everytime i start the car, people tell me it sounds like a jet engine starting... whenever i'm in a parking garage i sometimes play the game to see how many car alarms i can set off.. last night i set off 7 by simply driving WOT in 1st down one aisle.. which was a new record
just idling, it sets off car alarms.. and accelerating 125mph WOT through tunnels... oh my god.. (just thinking about it and smiling. i honestly have to wear ear phones or i'm prolly gonna go deaf if i keep doing that) yes, it's damn loud.. but boy does it sound awesome when i start the car up... sounds like a finely tuned v8 engine.. people are very very surprised to hear it's not a v8.. i would NOT recommend it for anyone with a hardtop of any variation or anyone that drives with someone else alot... with the top up it's just plain annoying.. so i can't imagine it's THAT much better with a coupe... but driving alone, enjoying the porsche experience in full with the top down and a nice sunny day.. ahh nothing beats it.. if it's your daily driver, don't even consider it either way.. it's way too loud and will eventually drive you nuts.. luckily i have a few other more silent variatian of cars in the stable for when i want to be relaxed/and or not wake up everyone within a 5 mile radius
the nice thing about it, is i don't have to make it loud all the time... just WOT in every gear is what really does it.. in terms of being close to orgasmic, in my life, the sound it makes WOT is the only thing that compares.. :P
- 1,200 new miles since 3rd engine replacement and no problems.. yayx2
What are other performance mods do you have on your car? Also, besides the sound, did you notice any increase in hp? Just wondering what it will sound like if I install it on my car.. i have exhaust, headers, chip, and intake... My car is already pretty freakin' loud, so I don't want it to be TOO much if you know what i mean...
Oh, and yeah, you got to love accelerating hard through tunnels... I live for that!!!
i've got the bypass pipes on my coupe. its not bad with the windows up although i'm always driving with the windows down and the top open to hear that wonderful torrent of noise. with the windows up there is a lot of resonance.
for those of you interested in the power curve. i posed a dyno graph in a thread a while ago. only mods are filter/cleared intake and the pipes. IMO if u can stand the noise (if ur a more conservative gent or just an old fogie...don't get them) its worth it just for the 50lb weight reduction.
i have several videos doing drivebys and revving the pipes if u need to hear them.
I've been running with the Bypass Pipes now (Mine is a coupe) for a little less than a year minus a couple of months and I simply LOVE mine. I took it off for about a month and couldnt handle how quiet the car was, so I had them re-installed. Now with my current new modification, I had considered removing it again, but hell, you only live once...and I'm addicted to the sound...it's unreal!
I don't know just yet, they finish the install on Thursday, I pick her up on Friday. I'll have a detailed report of my impressions soon there after. I can't imagine it not feeling like a Porsche, though.
As far as sound, the bypass pipes transformed her into sounding more like a Porsche than ever, imho.
I've had the bypass pipes for a year. Took them off before the winter. Definitely a sweet sound but not something for long drives and they can get annoying after driving for more than 2 hrs. Mind you, I live in NYC and do sometimes get dirty looks from cops passing by, but did not get a ticket during the past 12 months. I just wish that I could be able to switch from the bypass pipes to a muffler without having to take out the entire muffler.

Thanks

Comparing PSE to the bypass pipes is like comparing one violin to a symphony.
