Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I'll double check the pressure but the installation was just done by the Porsche dealer, I am assuming they did the install correctly.

I dropped a chunk of change on this set-up and I'd hate to see it wasted to any degree.

Can you tell me what pressure you are running F/R?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I finally drove my C4S with Pirelli snows on today. I found a packed down unplowed parking lot. I went berzerk and found it very difficult to get the yellow traction caution light to activate. My confidence in this car with this set (stock wheels/almost tire size) Is way higher than I had anticipated. My chin was ruffed up a bit so the deep stuff is out of the question but I really do not fear hills or smaller accumulations. I think thatn the fact that my car is painted "Arctic" silver really intimidates the snow as well. My car is the "Chuck Norris" of the Northeast!
Even though I only have a C2, I have always felt like I have more control in snow in the Porsche with good winter tires than in my Jeep. The absolute best car in the snow was an Audi TT quattro with winter tires. I imagine a C4 would be right in there with it.
But once again, I do thank all of you guys who store your cars in the winter for keeping the miles down for me when I buy your car in a few years.
They sure do not "LOOK" like snow tires! I had a few wide on ramps to play with and tried gingerly to get them loose without success. The discussion here about tire materials and how they are effected by temperatures was spot on. These tires feel sticky at 21F degrees
Here I am all dressed up (Blizzak 25) but there is so much salt . . . I know I will go out soon, but it's hard . . . (PS: these were great on cold roads before the muck hit)
Okay - so I bought the 04 996C2 thinking it would a safer weekend stress reliever than the Harley Sportster, and I kept the 02 Aurora Northstar V-8 to be the daily driver. And today I spring for another set of wheels and the Pirelli's from Tirerack.com because I just can't park the 996. Wife thinks I am crazy, the olds is mint and shiny and garaged. The Porsche is in the driveway in the snow. And I love every minute of it. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experience, it made my latest impulse buy much easier.
OK, I am ready for a group buy of 996 Ski/snowboard racks. I will have to host the first Rennlist ski weekend.....ok, I guess we can let the 964 and 993 members in on this.....if they bring the beer!
Hey!....When the bogey man goes to bed, he checks his closet and under his bed for Chuck Norris!
Chuck does not do push ups, he moves the earth away from him.....................
Here is my question, with a ROW M0030 suspension and a GT3 body kit what is the depth of snow you can get around in. I remember when I drove my Corvette in the Winter once and all of a sudden it became a snow plow, would like to avoid making my Porsche a snow plow but feel confident my C4 could handle the traction.
Thanks
Derek
I finally have my new wheels and Pirelli 240's on the car and the tire noise is almost too much to bear on interstate driving. The tires work great, plenty of grip, but I am really surprised at how loud they are. Even my wife commented on the difference between the Pirelli's and the old Conti's. Just wondering if any of you folks experience the same or if maybe I have a bad tire. There is absolutey no vibration at any speed.
I'd appreciate any comments, unless of course someone asks me for data or to quantify and qualify what "noise" is. LOL
I have Blizzak LM 25's....they are actually much less noisy than my falkens and ps2's. A bit of a softer ride too, and not too much forfeited with performance on dry....surprisingly. They are a blast in the snow too.....

Here is a quick pic of the Pirelli's and new wheels. I'm not sure how I feel about the wheels, I probably should have spent more than 20 minutes browsing tirerack.com.
I'm kinda surprised to hear this, but maybe my car is just louder than yours to begin with. I was actually surprised at how quiet they were. I know this goes without asking, but are your pressures where they should be?
Thanks
I'll double check the pressure but the installation was just done by the Porsche dealer, I am assuming they did the install correctly. I am really hoping that this is not normal, I want to take a road trip from Pa. to Florida in late January and there is no way I could tolerate the noise. It is so loud we couldn't wait to get out of the car last night. I dropped a chunk of change on this set-up and I'd hate to see it wasted to any degree.
Thanks. Can you tell me what pressure you are running F/R? I checked mine they are different at all 4 corners. And I checked them hot so I will do so again cold. LR41/RR43 LF34/RF31.
THANKS ALL! it appears that tire pressure has a noticable impact. Cold they were 36 front and 39 rear. I put the rears to 44 cold and it is much better. More important than the noise, the correct pressure certainly make the car stable at higher speeds, it was very squirelly at 39 in the rears.
I am really annoyed with both tirerack.com and my dealer. When I took the car back to the dealer the answer was a real short "they're snow tires, what do you expect". The dealer keeps leaning on the term "Porsche Tech" as if this so called tech has a clue about a P-car, yet this tech is the guy who underinflated the rear tires, even though there is a TSB specifically for the Pirelli 240's that includes the pressure of 36F/44R as well as very explicit mounting instructions. He's also the tech that test drove the car with me and diagnosed a bad 4th gear synchro as worn shifter bushings.
Anyway, the ride is now tolerable and I still plan to drive to south florida at the end of this month.
As for tirerack.com, I have learned the hard way that if you have a bad experience with them, it just gets worse. The sales guy fat fingered my order and sent two Pirelli summer tires and two winter tires, it was a nightmare to get the order corrected and they certainly did not treat shipping the correct tires with any sense of urgency.
But what really has me ticked is that I am still carrying the charges for the wrong tires and after more than two weeks, several e-mails, and several phone calls all I receive is promises that the tires will be picked up. The dealer keeps calling asking to have the tires removed from their shop, I call tirerack.com and they ALWAYS say that the pick up ticket never got released, they blame the sales guy or the previous customer service rep.
We shall see how the car does on a 2800 mile round trip run, no matter what, I know it will be FUN. Every one thinks I am crazy for driving instead of flying, but then again, they don't know the p-car.
