Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

26 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Took the car to the dealer for a wheel alignment. He says "the car is kinda low" and I told him "the car has the factory RoW030 suspension". He says okay, the car will be ready in about two hours so I leave and come back later. When I return to pick up the car, he says the tech couldn't align the front right because of the front suspension. He says "you know, when you install an aftermarket suspension, it's hard to align the car correctly". I inform him again that the suspension was ordered with the car "FROM THE FACTORY" and to check the option sticker under the hood . He then looks at the tech's inspection sheet and notices that the alignment specs he is using say USA 996 on the top. He then goes back to the alignment machine (with three other techs) and pulls up the correct spec for Row030 (Porsche: 911 : 1999-2005 Carrera (996) :Except USA, GT3 (-30mm)). He aplogizes and said it will take about an hour for them to correct . Well, car feels much better now. He also tells me that the RMS is dripping a little and it will be around $1200-$1300 to fix. Called my Indy and he says it will run $492 to fix. Dealers....gotta love 'em.

POST 2Original post

There are three constants in the universe: Death, taxes and bad car dealers. Sometimes I really wonder how well these guys know our cars. I've had similar issues with my local Porsche dealer.

POST 3Original post

Yep I am starting to learn that dealers are good for one thing...selling only

POST 4Original post

That's why the only place my car will see work done is at my indy (race shop). Is there no good indy's in SATX for P-Cars? There was a fantastic place over on Broadway that I took my BMW's to "back in the day" and if you could find a P-Car indy like that you would be golden!

POST 5Original post

I Took my car to the dealership the other day to get an alignment, they found that it was only slightly out of spec so instead of the $219 charge I was only charged $184. Should I be greatful or suspicious?

Are you talking about Rhine West for the BMW? They did some work on my R1200RT and I know the bike mechanic there. I do have a good Indy (Prestige Performance) in SATX, they just didn't have the alignment rack. After they found the correct specs, it was okay.

POST 7Original post

Ah, Rhine West! Couldn't get the name out of my infant abused brain (lack of sleep these days )

Didn't realize that the kid had arrived already - welcome to the club. Kiss your old life goodbye. Don't worry, it only gets worse as they get older.

Well, you know, I made the mistake of saying (before he was born) that I wanted him to be a independent, self-reliant rebel like me.... big mistake. Be careful what you wish for. I was afraid of that.

POST 14Original post

Dell, as I tell sleep-deprived parents who bring their babies to me: "As your little ones grow older, it doesn't get any easier ... it just gets different!" (as other parents on the board are confirming)!

Different is good... if it gets them out of the phase they're in now.

Enjoy every minute of their lives no matter what particular phase they're in - it all goes by too damn fast. BTW, can you tell I have a birthday tomorrow and am not happy about it??

Cherish all the phases Gents. Mine is on the...well, "I hardly never see him anymore phase" 16 and has the world by the *****. Congratulations on your new baby.

POST 18Original post

True. Good advice. I've not yet gotten to the appreciating every minute bit yet. It mostly just feels like triage. I'm sure it will be fun soon.

POST 19Original post

there goes your driving around in the P-cars......mine is sitting catching dust in the garage until she (my baby girl) is going to be 1 yr old....so she can drive facing forward in the backseat. I am lucky and don't sleep much, because even after 6 months (and they go by very fast looking back..LOL) she is on her own schedule..... 6 months old and in charge. and about the original post.......I am lucky there is a good independent shop 5 minute walking from my house.

Phil, I wasn't going to mention this, but I called your wife last week and told her not to bake a cake for you, because I had ordered a cake from a local (to you) bakery to be delivered tomorrow. Boy oh boy, was that a mistake on my part! That cake cost me $342! The cake was $45, the candles were $56, and (due to local regulations the imposed by the fire marshall) the mandatory fire extinguisher was $241! But the bakery sent me a pics of the cake and I think it was worth it. BTW - I have never seen candles stuck into the side of a cake before! I know, I know, as Chuck says.... I'm a ********! Happy Birthday, Phil!

POST 22Original post

So how do we all sing Happy Birthday to Phil over the internet? Remember, it has to be badly out of key.

POST 23Original post

Thank you all for your kind wishes. Great looking cake for only $342?? Did you get it from the Porsche dealer? At least you can get a 15% PCA discount!

POST 25Original post

Have any of your 3 year olds had "selective" hearing? Mine, who half the time seems to be able to hear a flea fart, can't seem to hear when you call to him - like, "Isaac! Don't lock your little brother outside..." I think there's just so much bouncing around in that little head that its hard for him to focus on what's what sometimes (it seems, when he doesn't hear, he's occupied with something else). My wife, on the other hand, worries that he's hard of hearing...
