Since then it seems that they have not been able to get their license renewed by the state to sell in California.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm pondering an after market warranty for my '03 cab. I bought it with 3 months of original warranty on it, but that expired several months ago. I filled out several online quote forms to get an idea of the cost. Now I've got a lot of phone calls from them implying that if I don't get the warranty now, the price will be higher next year.
Is this true? After all, it is an after market warranty, so does it really matter?
Thanks.
Happy New Year!
Tom
You could do a search on WarrantyDirect to get some reading material. They seem to be a decent after market warranty company. My car is still under OEM warranty so I have never done business with WD. Here is a link to their site.

I had Easy Care (the full coverage one). I bought it from the Porsche Exchange in Highland Park, IL.
I bought the car from a private party, went in the same day and bought the warranty.
IIRC, it covered an additional 4yrs and 75,000 total miles.
The warranty was ~$3000 and they paid out at least that.
Never once a question on a claim. The shop calls, gets authorization for a claim and Easy Care pays by credit card.
I had a $100 deduct.
I bought the warranty just in case something catastophic happened (ie: motor failure, tranny failure).
I've got my warranty with Advantage warranty, and just got my car back today after more than one month to replace bad noisy lifters. They brought the appraiser out twice and approved it without a problem. The total parts and labor job was around $5800 of which they paid $5500. Certain things weren't covered like spark plug hoses, motor oil, etc. All in all I'm glad there was no pushback on the claim but they took FOREVER to process it. 90% of the time my car was on the rack just waiting for Advantage to get back to us. The actual work only took a couple of days total.
I've done two other claims and both of those were no problem. I paid ~$3K for a 2 year full coverage and I'm now way in the black.
Suckiest part is - the lifters are still noisy!! I'll take that up w/the dealer.
I have warrantyDirect for my 01 BMW 530i. They have been ok. The biggest problem is that what my local indy (and dealer) BMW Mechanic charges for parts never fully seems to cover what WD says the part should cost. Also, it seems that my mechanic always needs to take more time in diagnosing the issue than what WD is willing to pay ...thus there has still been out of pocket $$ that I have had to pay. All in all, it has been at least a piece of mind that I am covered in case something drastic happens.
UCK,
I am trying to get a quote for extending my extended warranty on my 02 C4S with 29K miles. When I reached the Warranty Direct web page and asked for a quote they responded they do not currently hold a California license for doing business here?? You are in the Bay area I think and currently hold a warranty direct extended coverage??? What am I missing??
TIA, demosan
I bought my coverage from WD over a year ago. Since then it seems that they have not been able to get their license renewed by the state to sell in California. Previously they were the ONLY non manufacturer to offer warranty coverage in California. Call them and get the details, last I heard they were still pursuing it.
Thanks for the clarification!! When I contacted them they did mentioned they were pursuing a process to become licensed, but gave no date for closure. Looks like I will try and use my current carrier, Fidelity in Deerfield Beach FLorida.
