Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

For knock offs just check ebay, for Oem the cheapest I have found is here:

Suggestion
If you do replace a light, you might want to premptively change the city light as well since they have a tendency to burn out and it is quite annoying to pull the whole headlight assembly just to replace that small bulb.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 1999 C2 is now up to 92,000 miles and I was just wondering how long I can expect the litronics lights to last. I did a quick search and didn't see anything. Just how long do these lights typically last? Has anyone had to replace theirs because they burned out?
And if they have to be replaced, is it like installing new at the full cost?
I got 4 years out of my bulbs before one started to go, the bulbs are about $175 each from Pelican, they're as easy to replace as any other bulb
when I ordered mine from Pelican though, they sent me the wrong type, the catalog ds1 type bulbs when mine (2002) take ds2's, they swapped them no problem, but check that out to make sure before you order them
Do you have to becareful when replacing with not getting any oil from your hands on them bulbs? Did you have to replace the bulbs wearing gloves? Last question: Was the light any different from the old bulb compared to the new so when you do replace them, both bulbs were replaced?
TIA
yea don't touch them with your naked skin
the newer the bulb, the yellower/whiter it will be compared to the older as the older bulb goes up in Kelvin as it ages (less light output).
My car did not come from the factory with litronics. The original owner had the dealer add them. To the best of my knowledge, they are OEM. I just hope that when it comes time to replace, I don't find out I am wrong and the standard bulb doesn't work.
If the lights are factory litronics, whether installed at the factory or aftermarket, they take d2s bulbs. Hids are supposed to have a much longer lifetime than traditional halogen bulbs, sometimes lasting for the lifetime of the car, but they do burn out or fail on occasion. You can either pay more and get oem Phillips bulbs, or pay less and get some knock offs that may or may not be just as good. For knock offs just check ebay, for Oem the cheapest I have found is here:

. No affliation, just a happy customer.
As ben pointed out, it is important that you do not touch the bulb with your bare skin as the oil from your skin will cause premature failure of the bulb. Also as ben pointed out, Hids "colorshift" or become more blue as they age. Therefore if just one bulb burns out, the new bulbs will produce a whiter light than the old bulb. For this reason it is usually preferable to replace them in pairs. If you do replace them you can get a higher temperature bulb for a bluer color output, but this comes at the cost of less usable light since the factory 4300k temperature puts out the most usable amount of light in the spectrum.
If you do replace a light, you might want to premptively change the city light as well since they have a tendency to burn out and it is quite annoying to pull the whole headlight assembly just to replace that small bulb. I replaced mine with Leds that should offer an increased lifespan as compared to the stock halogen bulbs while also putting out a whiter light that better matches the beam of my xenon low beam.
