Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I checked with my dealership and they thought that this was normal behavior, so I wouldn't worry about your father's Porsche's oil consumption yet.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, about a week and a half ago my father took delivery of his new '04 C4S Cabrio. When he picked it up, the digital oil level indicator said that it was one bar below where it needs to be. Now, after driving only 300 miles, the indicator is showing that the car is down 1/2 a quart. Is this a normal part of the break in procedure? His other car is an '01 M5 and he has had to put a quart of oil in every 2,500 miles because that beast just sucks it down. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

POST 2Original post

Oh there are many many good posts out there on oil consumption so do a search and you'll find many hours of reading on what other people are experiencing. (I have had to top-off with 1.5 quarts in the first 3K miles for mine.) - Michael

POST 3Original post

my C4 never consumed much oil, even during the break-in period. i would add a half quart every 8K miles or so, but that's it.

POST 4Original post

8 quarts with 7000miles...OPC assure me it's normal.

POST 6Original post

My '03 C4S consumed approximately 1 quart of oil every thousand miles for the first four thousand miles. After that the oil consumption steadily dropped so that now with seven thousand miles it hardly consumes any oil at all. I checked with my dealership and they thought that this was normal behavior, so I wouldn't worry about your father's Porsche's oil consumption yet. If it continues after the break in period or gets worse, I'd have it checked out at that point, however.
