Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a chance to buy a 2002 C2 coupe for a very good price. Only catch is that the engine was replaced at about 10K miles. The new engine has 6K on it with no apparent problems. Should I be concerned. I have seen several posts about engine problems with the 02's. Thanks, Scott

POST 2Original post

Scott: Why not get an extended warranty and then you don't have to worry. I think an extended warranty is good insurance, especially for a Porsche. Good luck

POST 4Original post

Scott, There is an inherent design flaw in many of the 996 engines that causes a leak at the Rear Main Seal RMS. If a leak is detected, the dealer has a way of checking if the shaft bearing/hole is concentric. If it is beyond a certain tolerance, they replace the engine, under warranty. If the engine was replaced under warr, for this reason. There should not be an issue at all... I agree with sly tho, look into getting the car certified by a p-car dealer, should cost about 2k. They may have to buy the car (if its from a private seller), certify it, then sell it back to ya for about 2k more....
