Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Having just trashed my 993, I'm looking at a '98 996 as a replacement. I really liked the 993, but I never buy he same model of car twice (life's too short). I'd appreciate any advise or links to a list of what to look for. The vehicle is being sold by my local official Porsche Centre. Many thanks.

POST 2Original post

may I ask why a '98? With price of a use 996 why not a newer model?

POST 3Original post

The 2002 and later models featured the 3.6 engine with improved HP and torque over the earlier models, a stiffer body/chassis and some cosmetic changes to the headlights....... You might want to check the car's rear main seal history. Some 996s experienced leakage from the seal and Porsche put out a redesigned seal. If the car you're looking at has a chronic history or the new seal doesn't fix the problem, it might be well to find another car.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In Hong Kong (where I live) we pay 100% import duty on all cars. My budget is around U$ 70,000, which will get me a '98. A 'basic' C2 is U$ 154,000, new.
