Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Playing a CD for maybe 20 minutes or so and suddenly the radio magically switches back to Radio (FM) play and displays "TA" on the left side...then about 30 seconds aafter that it switches back to playing the CD again. Seems pretty odd. I checked my radio manual but I didn't seen any info on this TA feature. I was guessing that I (or the previous owner) had some particular feature activated that I didn't know about. Thanks to all for any insights, or redirections to a good Becker board.

POST 2Original post

Mine has done this a few times... probably related to some type of "traffic alert" that pops up all of the sudden.

POST 3Original post

It is definitely related to the "traffic alert" function. I'm not sure how to clear it other than disconnecting the battery. I can't find the manual for it right now. If you disconnect the battery, be sure you have the security code to enter to reactivate the radio.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Long shot, but maybe dealer knows of some trick to fix it, other than battery disconnect. I suppose I could just pull the fuse for the radio in the fuse box, to clear its brains. Maybe.

POST 5Original post

From the Becker Manual: "If traffic announcements are not desired, the TP button mut be pressed until a T appears." (in the upper right of the display).

POST 6Original post

Yeah . Looks like this is not known in the US. So here's what it does: Most FM Radio Stations will announce Traffic Jams or any traffic related problems once every hour. The service is announced by a lenghty chirp signal which will trigger the TA function of the radio (if on). So with double tuners like the becker it will switch from the radio station you're listening to to the radio station with the TA. Same thing if you listen to CD or AUX. At the end end of the TA the chirp is transmitted again and the previous source will come on. I guess in your case some sound on the radio station running in background has been identified as the TA trigger by mistake. BTW: You can cancel the function by hitting 'TP' while it's on. To cancel it permanently you have to follow Loren's instructions. Thorsten

POST 7Original post

.....this is normal behaviour, as the guys said, you can switch off the traffic announcement function if you want. It is also normal for the TA to have a diferent volume setting. You can change this just by adjusting the volume while the traffic announcement is on. the time it is really annoying is when the radio give the signal a little rearly so you have to listen to an advertisement or somethign for a short time before the traffic announcement starts. They are not supposed to do this but it happens.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The radio displays "TA" when the traffic braodcast interruption cuts in during CD playback. I believe I have successfully turned off the feature, for now. Minor note: in case it matters to anyone, you must be playing a CD (or some non-radio source) in order for the instructions "press TP until T is displayed" to work. i.e. if you're just sitting there listening to the radio then pressing TP for a sustained amount of time only throws the unit into some strange mode that seems to let you scroll thru things like model, serial number, etc. Thanks to all for the info. Maybe sometime I'll actually play around with this feature when I'm slogging thru LA area traffic.

or Europe only? I'm guessing Europe only.
