Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

It still not as tactile and to my liking as other brands of cars I've driven, however it is still perfectly acceptable and a lot more enjoyable than the stock shifter.
Reading past postings on SSK, I came across the FVD unit. Yeah, it is pricey at $700. But, does anyone have one or experience with one? Is it good?

Looks bitchen and it's elevated but $700 is a bit much. You can get the 997 GT3 short shifter for about $450. IIRC which is what I use with cup spacers under the box....
Looks beautiful - too bad it'll be invisible. Basic B&M kit works for most; I like mine a lot. As I understand it, B&M is the Porsche OEM SSK too. Done.
I went through stock 996, 996 B&M, stock 997, and currently have 997 SSK. IMHO, the 997 ssk is the best for me or the sporting driver. The stock 997 is also good if you're just a casual cruiser.
Thats correct. We have done several of these. Numeric makes our in Red for us, the Canadian Edition :P
This one is installed in one of our customers 996TT Track Monster Project with Optional Risers. He loves it
Another one is going in our Shop Cayman R Project. will do one for my 996 C4S as well. We have had nothing but great feedback from our customers on these specially coupled with Cup Cables and RSS Motor Mounts which makes for a Solid Package for the track
For me it wasn't so much about the throw as as I wanted my cake and eat it too by having both a short throw
and
a great feel. I believe I came close with the 997 SSK. It still not as tactile and to my liking as other brands of cars I've driven, however it is still perfectly acceptable and a lot more enjoyable than the stock shifter.
If you just want a short throw and nothing else and don't mind the notchiness that you get with some shifters, then any shifter with the fulcrum point moved down will suffice such as a B&M or even eBay. However I'm guessing most would want that Porsche premium feel and overall experience of having a refined shifter and not feel like they're driving a Honda.

In typical Rennlist spirit, you guys are great. For my '01 Boxster S, it appears that the 997 SSK (997 424 983 00) would be the best (& most economical) way to go. Many thanks.
Forgot how much I paid (probably ~$200). Well worth the money and never looked back. I also tried the B&M ssk, which was way too short and notchy for my taste. What's good about the 997 stock and 997 ssk is they're true plug-and-play so if you don't like them, you can always switch back to stock and sell them easily.
