-Can they (sideskirts) be easily removed, and once removed is there any evidence that they were installed (holes / scratches from where they were pressed up against paint / marks from installation clips etc...?)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm not going to go into detail about it, but suffice to say that I strongly do not like the OEM sideskirts that are optioned on some cars and come on the 40th anniversary model. So heres the question: -Can they (sideskirts) be easily removed, and once removed is there any evidence that they were installed (holes / scratches from where they were pressed up against paint / marks from installation clips etc...?) Reason = I've expanded my search and found both a Seal grey car that has had them added, as well as several 40th Anniversary cars. I'd only consider them if I knew I could banish the sideskirts Anyone have input Cheers Will (examples of sideskirts below)

POST 2Original post

EDIT: I am guessing you already know how much $$$$ the side skirts cost (parts and labor). but anywho, these THREADs might help: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...t-removal.html https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...just-pull.html Edit #2: DELETED THE LAST LINK AND PIC BECAUSE IT WAS FOR A 964 (but you get the idea)

What do you plan on doing with your current skirts? Let me know if you are interested in parting with them.

I don't have sideskirts yet because I don't have a 996 yet. If I thought they were worth anything at all, I'd factor their sale into the purchase price of some of the cars I'm looking at. Everyone has their own opinion - clearly those in this thread all prefer the sideskirts but me. Will

POST 6Original post

They can be removed but----no offense, I think it would be unwise to do so... They just look so good on that car!!!!

POST 7Original post

I had my car without the sideskirt and I thought it looks really good. And thought the plastic skirts were not the best, but now that I have them... I think sideskirts looks so much better

POST 8Original post

I don't like them either! So much cleaner without.

I agree, but guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

the car in your avatar actually looks like it has them? is it yours? / have you subsequently removed them? Cheers Will

POST 11Original post

I'm not a purist but really don't see the logic in getting a 40th anniversary model and not representing it to the fullest. If main driving force is the engine, then at least save the side skirts for resale purposes. If its only the front nose or wheels you're after, get a regular mk2 and start there IMO. My $.02

POST 12Original post

He probably won't want those "showy" wheels either... send em my way please.

POST 13Original post

I wouls say it's for the engine and drive train 40th AE = x51 w/ LSD

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 10148851

Funny that this was brought up, you read my mind. I didn't mention it before, but honestly I also don't like the bright chromy looking wheels of the 40th. I much prefer the same wheels when just silver painted on normal Carreras. WC

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 10148865

you hit the nail on the head and also the Carrera Silver paint / and that fact that most of them (40th anniv) usually come more highly optioned than the Carreras I've looked at (most have sports seats / PSM / rear wiper / etc....)

POST 16Original post

The engine differences and LSD were the reason I first sought out the 40th too. If you do find one you want, I am serious about helping you unload those wheels. (And if you find any luggage, don't let that get in your way either.) Happy hunting!

POST 17Original post

Yep, it's why I bought one. Good luck on the luggage took me a while but I got 2 out of the 4 pcs it was supposed to come with. Last set I saw on eBay went for almostv$1k :/

My car is a widebody (C4S) so those aren't skirts.
