Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

This might be a tad OT for a color thread but....I ran across a 2001 911 on Ebay with a Biarritz white exterior and custom ordered Nephrite[Seafoam] green interior.

Hello: For my next 911, would like to get a 996 (c2,c4, or c4s (preferred)) in an off-the-run color.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello: For my next 911, would like to get a 996 (c2,c4, or c4s (preferred)) in an off-the-run color. Specifically I like signal yellow (orange), turquoise blue, riviera blue or lime green... basically all the late 60s/early 70s colors. Does anyone own a 996 with these colors (pictures greatly appreciated)??
Or an idea on how to track one of these cars down when it comes time?
Thanks, Ross
From another biased perspective -- given that I'm a
silver
fan, since it is the
TRUE
color of Porsche (and the official German racing color). I suggest you consider GT Silver, it is IMHO the best silver out there. And only the 40th Anniversary models came with it.
I ordered my 996 months before they even started building them (it ended up being the first one the dealer delivered). I like nonmainstream colors and they had a 993 on the lot that really caught my eye when I was at the dealer specing my car. The dealer showed me the color sample of it in the brochure and I could see why no one ever ordered it, it looked butt ugly there but was nice in person. We always called it Love It or Hate It Green (because it really polarized people), Porsche calls it Wimbledon Green. One day a guy with a 993 walked across a parking lot to tell me how much he loved the color, asked me what the color is called and then told me I was full of crap when I said Wimbledon, he even argued with me for awhile...
I will round them up and post in the next couple of days or pm me and I can get them over to you.
I'm just at a site where no external pc's can attach to the network....
G-
Bought that one off the lot, funny man...or else it would've been primer flat black like a 50's hot rod (some day when I have a job again I hope to make enough $ to force Porsche to paint one that color
).
Jorge,
Silver is not the German racing colour, White is. The myth of silver being Germany's racing colour came from the time Mercedes stripped their cars down to bare metal and polished them. However they were actually bending the rules.
If you look at any of the colour pictures of the Porsche factory team cars (as opposed to the "works" teams like Gulf and the original Martini-Porsche team), their base colour is always white.
Another titbit is that action by Mercedes gave rise to the saying "body-in-white", which actually means bare-metal. If you see in the Porsche parts catalogue the saying "body-in-white" it means the part will be delivered in bare metal.
Ciao,
Adrian.
If I can find the right one, my next car will be Cobalt. If I can't I'll default to speed yellow. We need some shirts or something that says something along the lines of "Add some color to your porsche".
The main reason for this is because Porsche seriously shortened the "visibly available standard and metallic paint colours list" in a cost saving exercise.
The original 996 paint brochure card is a shadow of previous models. It didn't mean you could not get other colours. If you wanted something else it meant you had to select "paint to sample" if the option was offered or if you were knowledgeable enough to ask for a different colour.
The Dealers were told to push the limited selection and they were very successful at this around the world.
The paint to sample option was quite expensive in some places so this also put off potential customers from requesting a different colours.
Plus there was the old "it will delay your delivery" excuse.
Ciao,
Adrian.
This might be a tad OT for a color thread but....I ran across a 2001 911 on Ebay with a Biarritz white exterior and custom ordered Nephrite[Seafoam] green interior. An "interesting" combination to say the least.
I'm sorry, no, Eeeewwww! My eyes! They're burning! That's just cruel and unusual punishment for a poor unsuspecting Porsche... Who would do such a thing? The Grinch? I'm going to have nightmares tonight.
I also loved the line, "This 2001 Carrera 996 6-Speed C2 Coupe is the Newest One For Sale in the USA." What the hell does that mean?!?! Talk about BS.
That white exterior / green interior is atrocious. But the reverse is quite nice in fact (and unique). I'd seen a signal green 997 (like the GT3 RS) with a cream / black leather interior on ebay sometime back. Can't seem to find the link to it now, but it looked awesome.
Edit: Here it is :

I love the exterior, but the red accents in the interior are a bit tacky.
and then decided to put in red trimmed mats.
Lime green and red? Hello???
and since when is a C4S a rare find?
and this was a dealer special order? Do you think someone got fired over this?!!!
Well, the green car is not as offensive as the white one. Although, I agree that the red trim was a mistake. Definitely a unique car.
I think someone got drunk at a party before that order was placed.
paint to sample no, but Slate Grey is not PTS just "special" (see online configurator). Slate and several other special colors are available (like Polar Silver for example) as a $3k option. See this thread for a comparison (Slate vs. Meteor Grey).

Vesuvio was supposed to be considered "purple" (not grey), but it seems to be a "mix" of a lot of colors. Probably one of the rarest. I woould of considered it, but it's not avail as a cab.
I was happy with Viola Metallic. It was only avail. for a few years, but someone said that it was coming back.
I kinda regret passing on the cobalt blue car that I was considering, but got a much nicer car in the process.
here's my newest oddball color, 2002 c2 cab, the original owner had it painted cyber green metallic at the factory, the car has the following options:
paint to sample
black full leather
advanced technic package
full carbon package
sport seats
18 lt alloy wheels
wheel caps with colored crests
cd
Mike, I love that color combo. I bet you don't have trouble finding it in the grocery store parking lot.
Redridge, your 911 is still my screen saver. I dream of installing the same factory aerokit on mine.
