Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

24 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I changed oil the 1st time on my 996 when i removed the drain plug but i removed the wrong plug which was big and located on the left of the engine, it has spring tension likes a relief vale. I managed to put it back on but i'm worry i don't what could happen to my car. Please give me your best anwser. Thank you, Jim

Find someone who has done an oil change next time to help you???

POST 3Original post

I did the same thing with the ML I managed to drain the tranny fluid (right in the middle of the front of the car). Wondered why it was red and only 2 quarts.. On top of that I added more oil in the oil filler so the car had over 9 quarts of oil and no tranny fluid.. ahhahahaha sorry i couldnt have been more help..

POST 4Original post

We need more info - did any fluid come out after you removed this mysterious plug/relief valve? If so, how much and was it oil, tranny fluid or?

POST 5Original post

I believe the oil drain plug is in the center of the oil pan as shown in the pic. I'm not sure what plug you removed.

POST 6Original post

wow, you ARE good.... how'd ya levetate the car like that. 1 too many martinis for me?

POST 8Original post

not to derail this thread, but what is holding that car off the ground? I see, what I think is, evidence of some photoshop, but not sure...

POST 9Original post

996's are just lighter than 993's Chris. They all float if you take off all of the wheels.....

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I did removed the plug under left engine header, the big one with a hole in the middle. I guess the oil from the head came out around 4 quarts then i found the oil drain plug, i removed it also and got about 4 1/2 quarts more. Basically i got the same oil amount it came out and new new oil put in the engine. If accidentcy removed that relief vale will it effect anything to my car? Thank you for your help. Jim

POST 11Original post

Well, the real trick is filling your tires with 50 PSI of helium. The car will then float in your garage. After you have completed you work under the car, you reduce the PSI to OEM specs. Then the car is super light, and super fast. Because the car is 90% lighter, there is much less friction between the road and the tires, so tires last for 90,000 miles! Actually, this car belongs to Orient Express and he did the photoshop, and a pretty good one at that!

POST 12Original post

Removing the cover and the oil pressure relief valve by mistake is not going to hurt your engine. Unless you forget to put it back in....

POST 14Original post

Almost sounds like you removed the bank 1 chain tensioner. What size wrench did you need to remove it? If it was a 32mm, thats what it was.

POST 15Original post

I want that! Where do I order? Does Suncoast carry them??

POST 16Original post

Nah, but I'm sure you can find a used one on eBay!

POST 17Original post

I just changed my oil again, and then proceded to flush the coolant (again). But this time I inadvertantly removed the above named bolt (17mm socket) and the spring (few inches long), along with a little piston (that goes over one end of the spring) also fell out. Question to forum: Does the little piston go on top of the spring rather than below (ie, piston, spring, bolt, rather than spring, piston, bolt)? I will flush the coolant next by removing the small allen bolt, not quite so far aft. Thank you.

POST 19Original post

Yes that is it. There was oil pouring out (I had just refilled the motor) so I didn't have time to look at the inside of the drain plug. Thanks again.

POST 20Original post

Tool Pants you are the man. Does any maintenance need to be done on this. Or is there any reason to remove. In the past I have done simply the remove oil drain plug, filter, replace and refill......

POST 21Original post

dont remove it..................that is the pressure relif valve and any nicks burrs or dirt on it could be a major problem. I just had a car come in with no oil pressure. pulled the filer and found that spring and piston in the filter he did his own oil chnage dropped the valve and didnt know where it came from so he threw it in the filter. that was a 13k $ mistake

Gaaaaa...and he confessed to this? That's one for the books.

POST 23Original post

Actually, this car belongs to Orient Express and he did the photoshop, and a pretty good one at that! [/QUOTE] When I first looked at that picture I said that looks just like Orient Express's under carriage. Sweet!
