Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Check (a9 and a10, both okay)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check (a9 and a10, both okay)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2002 Carrera 2 with 34K miles. AC worked great earlier this week, but now is kaput. Just bought car on Monday; so I have no prior experience with this particular vehicle.
Here's what happened:
Was running AC, switched to defrost for a minute. Fan quit blowing and still will not blow under any circumstance. No messages available on the onboard computer. Not only will the fan not blow, but the A/C button will not even make the A/C indicator light come on. All other electronic indicators on the center console--"auto" button, temp +/-, fan speed +/-, vent selection, etc. work same as always.
The fuse box map indicates three fuses related to A/C. I pulled and inspected those three. None appeared burned out, but I stuck replacements in nonetheless. Made no difference.
Ideas? One curiosity...is the AC and fan one unit? If so, anyone have a ballpark on part/labor cost to replace?
Upside is that open sunroof and two open windows can circulate lots of 100 degree Memphis air...
Just to add insult to my injury, I found out the headlights have quit working, too (of course, I was coming out of the movies at 10PM when I learned this...interesting drive home...). All other light switch positions work except when you go to the most clockwise position--parking lights are on, headlight and taillights are off. Hard to believe that all bulbs burned out simultaneously. Fuses have been checked (A9 and A10, both okay).
Any ideas out there about how I could lose AC, AC fan, and lights all at the same time??? Seems like a lot of bad luck.
deffanitly sounds like a ign switch
170$ for the switch
3 hours at a dealer
some poeple will try to tell you that you can just use a audi switch off ebay, and you can.............but buy 2 or 3 cause theres a reason porsche doesnt use it or even sell it anymore
Thank you both. I kept researching since the last post and it seems like the ignition switch is the culprit for a *lot* of folks. Like the last post mentioned, there's a $35 original part or the upgrade to the $150ish ignition switch with steering lock.
Still, I appreciate the posts, guys!
Yeah, a faulty ingition switch causes a few well know problems, and some lesser known issues, like.... like low air pressure in the tires.... clogged A/C drain hoses.... excess accumulation of navel lint. OK, maybe that last one is a stretch!
Seriously, the ingnition seems to be the weak link in the front of the car and the coolant expansion tank seems to be the weak link in the back of the car.
