Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Just filled up gas and the gauge is reading properly, all without disconnecting the battery.

I think there is a warning in the Owner's Manual about disconnecting the battery with low fuel.

On a C4 you will need to fill the tank - disconnect the battery again (then re-connect it) - then it will re-calibrate.

Suggestion

Also, if your gas guage doesn't reset, note that there was a recall on C4 cars about the gas gauge only showing 3/4 full after reset, so you might need to bring it to Porsche if that happens.

I think I read somewhere that the 2nd half of the tank is mesaured using calculation not with the tank float?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Battery died this morning, after 8 years? Maybe... at least it was a original Porsche battery. After a new battery she started right up, but now the gas gauge is showing empty. Normal?

POST 2Original post

On a C4 you will need to fill the tank - disconnect the battery again (then re-connect it) - then it will re-calibrate. I think there is a warning in the Owner's Manual about disconnecting the battery with low fuel.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Loren, I will give that a try today. Also I noticed that the speedometer is showing km now instead of mile. How do I switch that back to miles instead? TIA

POST 4Original post

Switching back to miles can be done from the OBC, just use the stalk and cycle through the choices you'll see. Also, if your gas guage doesn't reset, note that there was a recall on C4 cars about the gas gauge only showing 3/4 full after reset, so you might need to bring it to Porsche if that happens.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car doesn't have the OBC option installed.

From the manual: "With ignition on, hold adjustment button B turned to the left for about five seconds." Button B is to the upper right of the tach.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you! That did the trick, got the miles back.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just filled up gas and the gauge is reading properly, all without disconnecting the battery. I think I read somewhere that the 2nd half of the tank is mesaured using calculation not with the tank float? Or something like that. Thanks

POST 9Original post

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post
