Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am in the process of purchasing a 1999 996, upon inspection, the car seem to be in good shape, except a repainted front hood, I decided to take the car to a car wash, after the car wash, I found 1/4 inch of water in the bottom of the trunk, and driver's side floor panel, from what I see, the water didn't leak through the trunk seal, because the side of the trunk was dry, from the driver's side I can see the water on the back of brake pedal and clutch pedal all the way to the carpet. Anyone of you guys experience this before or know where the leak comes from? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Are you sure the car hasn't been in a major accident and repaired?

POST 3Original post

TL, their are a lot of very nice 996's for sale. Take your time. Search this forum for advice (RMS, PPI, option codes, etc). Look for vehicles w/ complete service records and speak w/service manager (Williams ?). Extended warranty (Porsche certified is best) is a must. definately a point of negotiation. Good luck.

POST 4Original post

whatever is wrong with it, i'd stay away. if water got in there now, it may have in the past, and water damage is the worst thing for a car full of fancy electronics.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the reply, however the carfax check is ok with no problems, and he has all the records, and I did look through the entire car, even take out the spare and carpet in the trunk before the car wash, and I didn't see any water damage, just for some reason the water leak in after the car wash? the owner did mention he'd never taken the car to a carwash, he usually handwash the car, I did suggest him vaccum out the water, before returning the car to storage, but the owner's just said "It will dry up by itself". Thanks for the suggestion, I guess I will just keep looking. Here's the VIN number just in case anybody runs into the car, VIN # WP0AA299XXS625731 1999 Carrera Coupe Blue/Grey TL

POST 6Original post

the carpets under my floor mats were damp and i thougt i had a water intrusion problem. this can appear if you run your a/c at all times, moisture condenses on the evaporator then accummulates into droppletts and runs out the a/c plenum drain hose. if the hose is blocked it will drain into the car--somewhere.

POST 8Original post

Run and do not look back... too many 996 out there to be taking risk with a fish bowl... run TL, run!!
