Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just added a '99 996 coupe to the collection - impressed with the car so far but have a question about the alarm set up. When I lock the car with the remote key..the doors lock and then it takes about 20 - 30 seconds for the horn to quickly beep twice. Now on my '97 993 when this happens it's telling me that something is open. But it also doesn't take that long to beep. Any suggestions? I've checked everything...all doors are closed, rear front hood etc... I'm not sure if this is normal or not. I hope I don't have an electrical gremlin. Help?? Jim

POST 2Original post

Jim: I just bought a 99 last week. When I lock it with the remote key, it beeps once quietly about 3 seconds after locking. Just a datapoint. Steve 99 996 00 M5

POST 3Original post

If you get a beep on a 996 then you you have an unprotected zone. Normal operation of the alarm is totally quiet. A single beep means that a zone is unprotected - i.e. sunroof open, front or rear deck lids not shut, or most common the center console is open. If all these items are closed and you still get a beep then you likely have a bad microswitch. Most common are the center console - usually broken from someone slamming it shut. Second most common is the front trunk microswitch - there was a TSB for this one.

POST 4Original post

Loren: thanks for the info; I will check the center console. Does leaving the center console unlocked make a difference? Steve

POST 5Original post

Steve- if center console is completely closed unlocked or not won't cause the beeping. Now if you press the remote twice it will disarm the alarm sensor inside so if neone is inside ie dog etc won't rigger the alarm. Had my B&M shifter put on and my mechani accidentally broke the microswitch so it beeped once. Like Loren said check the other culprits. Regards. Mike

POST 6Original post

996FLT6: I went out and conscientiously closed the console. No more beep! Thanks, Steve BTW, in general did 99 996's come with computer, heated seats, and sunroofs? Mine does not have them, and the sunroof/heated seat switches are blanked off, and there is no computer stalk.

POST 7Original post

If you're interested in adding the OBC (an option) and are a DIYer, check out http://www.vssi-eda.com/9x6werks/ The suroof was not listed as an option on mine, so I asume that it was stock. I know that heated seats were an option. Regards, rb

POST 8Original post

All MY99 cars had OBC computer and sunroof. The sunroof could be deleted with a special no cost option. The heated seats were an option.

POST 9Original post

Heated seats is an option(don't have them-for a coupe not necessary IMO cept cabs). I belive sunroof come standard unless its a delete option at no cost(wished I had no sunroof-never use it). Computer stuff is an option too but heard you can add it like prev person said. Regards.MIke

POST 10Original post

Hi All. I have allready started a topic about OBC. Looks like it can be retrofitted, but not sure if it has been done to a 996 only a 986 as far as I know. Lets help out eachother here. This could be fun to do. Especially if it is cheap :-))
