Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gang, Wondering if anyone has had to purchase a new battery? I decided to start my 996 up after 8wks of slumber, pretty much knowing the battery would be dead. It was... and it won't hold a charge. Since the battery's 5yrs old now, I suppose it's time for a replacement. The replacement part seems straightforward. Anyone know the cost, or if there's a source other than the dealer? Thanks, Troy

You can use a group size 48 battery with vent tube from any large auto place. Interstate, Sears, exide, and so on. Bought mine from AutoZone for $60 two years ago. Jeff

POST 3Original post

I bought a gel Optima battery at Costco for $100. Sears size 48 always worked great too as long as it is vented properly.

POST 4Original post

Mo, Which Optima did you buy and did you have to modify the battery connector cables to connect it?
