Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is a pretty one! But, not certified, and not a Porsche dealer. Looks pretty well equipped though - full leather, 3 spoke wheel. I emailed them for an options list. C2 Such low miles, I would assume a PPI would find RMS issues, among other things?

POST 2Original post

It looks a little high to me and its not highly optioned. also those low miles is not necessarily a plus, it's been sitting too much. i'd keep looking and for a certified one. good luck.

POST 3Original post

Looks Good. PPI is the way to go. I noticed car has supple leather.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Full supple leather, 3 spoke w/ silver crest - no idea what else. I keep going back and fourth between wanting a CPO, and thinking low miles plus an extended warranty would be fine too. Then I remember the non-CPO cars might need tires, brakes, shocks, etc. If I wanted a silver CAB, I would be able to see 100 of them in the tri state area!

POST 5Original post

What do you mean? A Porsche can never sit too much!

POST 7Original post

Just for what it's worth, Polar is gorgeous... I saw Arctic and Polar side-by-side this week.. Polar is so much warmer

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking!

POST 11Original post

I always remember coveting polar 993 a few years back - I think the colour is miuch better than artic (i own an artic car) price should be a lot closer to $35k though IMO

POST 12Original post

Phil - you need to have a custom made plexi-glass "display box" made for your car. That way it will look like the 1:43 or 1:18 scale models that you put on your desk, the only difference is that yours will be 1:1 scale.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is there anyone who lives close enough to Deer Park to take a look at this car, and give the tires a kick (and the RMS too)? I'm thinking a good 3rd party warranty would protect me, and if the price comes down enough....

POST 14Original post

My '02 C4 CAB is for sale. Mileage a little higher, but it is in perfect condition and a lot more car than the 00....in case you are open to other cars....

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nice cab, but I only want a silver coupe...near the East coast!

POST 16Original post

andy I looked at this one In PA - Great guys but I decided I wanted a C4 for the weather Take look - The Dealership seemed very professional http://autoworks-international.ebiza...px?iid=1088076

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I looked at an 01 C4 at a Porsche dealer in PA. They are holding steady at $44k. Everyone (well, almost everyone) who responded in the thread says $44k is too high. Yet, seems everyone is paying mid-$40's for a CPO C4? I'm confused!

POST 18Original post

For an '01? No. Mid-40's is 02(+) territory. C4 vs. C2 isn't a premium. MY is.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, I should be able to score a nice 00-01 for...what?

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I saw the carfax - car was maintained at Pepe Porsche in Westchester all it's life. Place is 5 miles away from a Porsche dealer, so I can get a PPI done if I can work out a decent price. Oh boy!

POST 21Original post

AndyK, For reference, I sold my lightly-optioned '00 with 66k miles and a fresh replacement engine, but with a few months of CPO left for $26.5k in Feb. In fairness, I think I could have gotten around an even 30k if I'd held out longer. I was very eager to sell. Justin

POST 22Original post

Over $40k? 18" wheels? Those look like 17s to me. Hell, I'd sell my car TODAY if I could get CLOSE to that number.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

$26 is pretty low, but it had higher miles, and you were in a rush. Wonder why - Blue Turbo, perhaps? I would definitely pay up for a super clean, low miles version of the car I want (color, options, etc). This car has the options, and the low miles. Seller says there is not one flaw. Would Pepe Porsche give out the service records if I asked, or called?

POST 24Original post

I like the low miles too. This isn't low miles as in 2250 miles, it's in the mid teens which means it was a weekend car and likely not driven too often on winter salted roads. If you can negotiate on price a bit...perhaps down to the high 30s or 40 max, I think it's pretty good. Some of the options the car has are not inexpensive so ignore people who compare partial and full leather, especially since this one is supple leather.

POST 25Original post

nycebo is right on the money. If you like the car and are willing to pay what the seller is asking, then it's a good price no matter what. If you can look at the market and negotiate them down more, then suddenly you have a great price When I found my Turbo, I probably paid right around market prices or maybe even slightly above. But I found the one I wanted, so I'm very happy.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I agree. If it's the car I want, and it's a few thousand more than some have paid, I'm fine--as long as I am getting what I want. I haven't seen many mint silver w/ full black leather cars that have the 3-spoke, and the hi fi sound. Hmmm...no PSM though. The seller seems very cool, and said he would bring it to Porsche and pay for anything the car needs. So, I'm going tonight - they have an indoor, brightly lit showroom w/ 50" TV and fireplace and 40 cars. Maybe I can live there!

POST 32Original post

I use Pepe. I like them a lot. I'm not sure if they would show you the history, but the guys there would surely tell you if it was a good specimen or a bad one.

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, 00, 01 whatever! I saw this car last night. If all goes well with the PPI next week, I will buy it! I wont bore you with the details, but this car is an easy concours winner right now - BEFORE the dealer cleans and details it! I have never seen such a new looking 996! Someone really cared about this car - which overrides the desire for an '01 w/ CPO. Here is a sneak peek:

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Also, when scheduling a PPI, does the Porsche dealer care that you are not a local customer?

POST 36Original post

No, they don't care. You're right, that engine compartment looks spectacular. I'm really impressed... not even any corrosion on the alternator, which really surprises me. Has the engine been replaced? Good luck! Hopefully we'll be seeing you driving this baby on the 15th!

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I checked with Pepe Porsche, and they confirmed that no "unusual" service was done (by them anyway). No RMS, and I assume no full engine replacement. When I saw this engine, compared to the C4 I saw in PA, I knew I found the one. And driving the car, the engine was so smooth and quiet compared to the other one. Pulled nicely, and quietly, with just enough exhaust growl. Did I mention the interior (and exterior) are like new? Showed the P/O really cared for the car. Hopefully, I'll be posting a "Just got a new 996" thread soon! Might even make the 15th's meet and drive, but not sure on the timing.

POST 38Original post

You have 2 weeks to buy the - plenty of time! I'm excited for you - I hope all works out.

POST 39 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I'll keep you all posted. PS--How would I find out if the engine was actually replaced?

POST 40Original post

...well, on most cars by matching VIN numbers. I've never actually done that on a Porsche, but maybe someone else can provide guidance on where on the engine block to find the VIN on a P-car engine.

POST 41 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, if the engine was replaced, I like the car even more! Here's another shot, for the hell of it (guess I'm pretty excited about it): PS--One tiny cosmetic issue - The silver paint where the hood release is is worn, and the black plastic above it has cracks in the finish, probably from someone's shoe rubbing it when getting in and out? Is this a plastic part that can be ordered?

POST 42Original post

I tend to agree... when I bought mine a large selling point was a new transmission and clutch less then 15K ago.

POST 43Original post

do the ppi at pepe, so you can have them print out ALL service history. they sure can tell you if the enginne/tranny is org. or not. gl

POST 44 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can't - Pepe is in Westchester, the car is on Long Island. I thought any Porsche dealer can check the history of the car via their computer?

POST 45Original post

i believe they can only chech warranty work from other dealership. i maybe wrong though. just notice that you will be paying a premium for this nice car, you know that, right?

POST 46 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, at $39.9, I'm paying up for a new looking and driving C2. I'm fine with that, because I am very **** about my cars, and starting with a prime example like this one is worth a few thousand to me.

POST 47Original post

good luck and you still have to take some new pix and post here, cause the dealer photo don't count.

POST 48 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey, the engine bay and exterior shots I posted were taken by me, when I saw the car on Friday night! Don't worry, I'm a pic ***** too--some nice outdoor shots will be posted when I get the car!

POST 49Original post

100% in agreement. If you love the car, get the best price you can, but clearly it deserves more of a premium because the thing looks brand-spanking new. A lot of love is worth a lot more than a few thousand dollars.

POST 50 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yup! Until the car starts leaking oil on the garage floor! (knocking on wood)
