Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All My 2001 C4 currently has OEM 18" turbo twists on her. Im in the market for some new wheels and aside from the normal offset confusion; I cant seem to get passed deciding between 18" or 19" rim sizes. I was hoping that you can shed some light on the + and - to both. To start it off, I have heard the following; 19s Damage easier - Look better + Will affect my Speedo - 18s Better ride quality + Dont look as nice - I can still use my existing tires +/- (sumitomo)

POST 2Original post

I disagree that 19s look better. They look silly to me. 18s are lighter, which is most important. 19s will give you a bigger contact patch (more grip) but I would stay with the 18s.

POST 5Original post

I'll chime in and say that I think 19's look silly as well. Too large for this car.

POST 6Original post

I'll disagree (my opinion only). The 996 and 997 are basically the same size and share essentially the same size wheel well openings. The 997 looks great with 19's and, imo, so does the 996. Personally, I think the 18's look a little small on the car. As for weight, yes that will be a negative. I've also heard the ride won't be as good as with the 18's. Just my opinion, of course.

POST 7Original post

I recently traded my 2004 C4S on a new 2007 C4S and think the 19" wheels look great. The new car with PASM rides as smooth or maybe even better than my 996 with 18" wheels. However, if I still owned my 996 I would stick with the 18" wheels for the benefits mentioned above. IMHO the cosmetic improvement is not great enough to overcome the negatives.

POST 9Original post

I have both. I use the 19's for the street. They look awsome, but damage real easy, and throw off your speedometer (further than it already is) they also weight more, and make your ride feel more "bumpy" I use the 18's (with DOT R compound tires) on the track. The ride quality and performance is way superior.

POST 10Original post

Bayonne, NJ, Jersey city? 18" for me. in fact, i am thinking about getting 17", i don't know what jersey city is doing with all the property tax they collect, the roads here are bad.

POST 11Original post

I have 19s - car is also lowered, and handles incredibly well, and the wheels look fab (get compliments all the time)...in addition, since they're forged aluminum (Champion RG5), they're probably LIGHTER than your factory 18s...

POST 12Original post

i like my 19's...... iforged...... they ARE lighter then my 18's hallow spokes...... they are a little bumpier, but at higher speed, they seem to be more stable...... and i love the looks of them, more so then my 18's

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

what about the speedo you switch from 18 to 19?

POST 14Original post

I have 19's....I like them better....They are lighter than my 18" twists...and lighter than ALL the OEM wheels except the Carrera Lightweights, and even then not by much...MAYBE a pound at the rear...I have mroe rubber on the road..and my ride is NOT worse...just depends on the tires and suspension combo.....I am using PSS9's....In my opinion this doesnt look "silly"...I thought my 18's looked silly because they looked too small. Here is my car on 18's....look at the rear...looks like they are 16's...lol...those are 18x10's with 285's.... Same car on 19's..... Just my opinion...but the 18's looked more 'silly'...maybe the 19's look better with the Aero kit and lowered suspension....maybe the 18's look better without the Aero and at stock height.

POST 15Original post

oh and my car is the EXACT same height in both pictures....19's just filll out the fenders better.....

POST 16Original post

I have 18s for track and 19s for street (will have them on in 2 weeks).

POST 17Original post

I think 19's look good from certain angles. HOWEVER, they look goofy from the side when you see how small the brakes are, and all that empty space in between. The little brakes make the wheels look like they don't really belong.

POST 18Original post

Thats interesting that 1/2" on each side of the rotor makes that much of a visual difference....I thought that too...until I looked at pics of my 18's and realized the brakes looked equally as small there as well....Its all psychological....by the way, until I painted mine yellow, I thought they were puny...they were silver so the calipers blended in woth the rotors....

POST 20Original post

heh.. i am in the same boat. i just cant make up my mind. than again, i am one of those people who takes extra two minutes in a drive through line i am just slightly leaning more toward 19's since i will keep my existing 18's for the track/autox.
