Suggestion

That being the case, I can see no reason for the GT3 mufflers not to fit a 996 unless the bracket is different and if so that can be unbolted and replaced with your stock one.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Stock Mufflers $50, Pick Up Only; Cary NC Tips and clamps are not included; only the cans I am almost positive they are the same mufflers as the MK2 996. I can snap a picture or 2 of the part numbers if needed in a couple days.

POST 2Original post

Hmm Cans.. I can see how you would just get rid of the mufflers after hearing F1s all weekend.

You got that right. Actually, Ive been running bypass pipes since mid may, but wanted a setup that I can run with the stock tips. ( link )

POST 4Original post

I was behind a Lister's Blue 6GT3 with a nice exhaust setup last year at Lime Rock ALMS. The sound of burble was intoxicating..

POST 5Original post

this is LOVE people... if you are thinking... even a tiny bit about doing your own FisterD hack,..... this is a good as it will ever get - way to pay it forward Scott!

POST 7Original post

Damn that is a sweet deal......and the muffler brackets with the 3 studs included too? It would be worth the drive to pick those up and do the hack are send to FisterD. GLWS!

POST 8Original post

Fabspeed swore up and down that the GT3 mufflers were different, but I haven't tried personally. They look very similar at a glance though.

POST 9Original post

PM sent! Now just need to know if they fit my 996 C4S. Anyone? Thanks! 2003 C4S Coupe in the shop still hung over from the "drive" off the transport truck. And no, I still have never driven the car.

Funny how that works. I heard the same about the GT3 Cat Bypass pipes vs the 996 cat bypass pipes. I went ahead and installed the GT3 cat bypass pipes onto my 996 and they fit perfectly between the x51 headers and the Fabspeed mufflers. That being the case, I can see no reason for the GT3 mufflers not to fit a 996 unless the bracket is different and if so that can be unbolted and replaced with your stock one. Cheers, -Paul

I got your separate message. I can't say 100% that the mufflers are identical due to not knowing the part numbers, but again, I can't imagine they would be different. Conventional wisdom says they are the same. I looked for part numbers tonight and could not locate them on the cans. For $50, give it a shot. To clarify your statement in your note, the engines are not identical between the C4S and the GT3, if that is what you were saying. Re: condition; they are fine, only ~13k on them; no cracks, dents, dings, etc

POST 13Original post

Done! PM your contact info this way and I'll advise when next week they will be picked up. Thanks a bunch!
