Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I was previously a 993 owner and moved to a 996 model after a financially fatal engine problem was diagnosed.
Leading evidence: 'diagnosed' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'diagnosed' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean car, free time and good sunlight' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

It rains a lot here in Seattle, so it was difficult to find a combination of clean car, free time and good sunlight.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know its traditional to send up photos of your vehicle upon purchase to show the other members. However, I am over two years late on doing so!
While it might be easy to say I was just extremely busy, it would probably be more accurate to say that I procrastinated as well. It rains a lot here in Seattle, so it was difficult to find a combination of clean car, free time and good sunlight. I was previously a 993 owner and moved to a 996 model after a financially fatal engine problem was diagnosed. While I really enjoyed the styling of the air cooled vehicle, it was pretty much time to let it go.
My 996 is a base model Carrera. The color is difficult to see unless youre in very strong sunlight. Its a Dark Teal Metallic, but basically comes off as a dark olive in anything but perfect light. It was a special order color and as far as I tell, extremely rare. Interior is Graphite Grey with full leather, supple leather and extended leather. Just about everything is covered in the stuff! The leather goes a long way to making the interior a bit more upscale. It also has all the usual options, Xenon, Bose stereo etc.
About the only downside has been the lack of driving. Between work, a day to day car and my wife wanting to explore the world, the car currently has less than 6,000 miles. In any case, enjoy the photos.

Yes, I purchased Bumper Plugs for the keyhole. I don't think I've ever stuck a key into the door!
And of course, bumper plugs for the front bumper
Everything inside is covered in leather, note the center vent and cup holder is leather
Hopefully, the color comes through better here.
Thanks for the pics...I won't wait 2 years for a reply...welcome. Nice car too. I really like the color. Obviously not seen everyday. Now try to find time to drive...Please...your car needs you.
Seriously, nice ride.
Dark teal + Graphite = very nice combo. I really enjoy seeing unique colors.
I'd like to see some more pics of the interior & the "extended leather" please.
The door speaker grill is also done in stitched leather! In fact ALL the speaker grills are leather. Doesn't make the Bose system sound any better.
Here are a couple of photos of them:
Air vents in leather...wouldn't that be a potential mold/mildew problem?
I'd be willing to take the chance.
How much was the extended leather option?
I'm getting some early symptoms of ELO (extreme leather overdose) just by looking! Very unusual color. Mint specimen, beautiful combo.
Your car needs you. This is coming from a guy with 4000 miles on his.
Once you spend more time looking at it from the inside (with the odometer rolling
) than from the outside, you know you're doing the right thing.
Thanks to everyone for their comments! It be accurate to say that moving from a 993 to a 996 is like moving to a completely new car. Up until the 996, there were sufficient visual cues to allow for some semblance of continuity. The five large analog gauges, the laughable placement of the intermittent wiper **** and the light click of the door mechanism when you open it. This car will mark the 8th Porsche I've owned and the 6th 911.
All of that was lost and a sense of familiarity was gone along with it. However, it was replaced with a number of positives. A transmission that was easy to shift, a deeper trunk that actually fits two carry-on suitcases and a more refined ride.
Fortunately because I purchased a more recent 996 the exhaust note is very similar to a 993 just a bit quieter. Do I miss the 993? Sure, but it was getting older and more expensive to maintain. However, if Porsche brought back the 993 as a heritage model and sold it brand new again in their dealerships, Id be the first to buy one.
I'd be willing to take the chance.
How much was the extended leather option?
I should probably clarify that there wasnt an extended leather option. Rather, the previous owner special ordered additional leather modules well beyond what was included with Full Leather.
Initially, I didnt know this had happened. Without a lot of history about 996 options, I just assumed that the Full Leather option was very complete! In fact, it wasnt until more than a year later that I started to notice that my car didnt look like everybody elses car. At which point, I tried to decipher the option codes on the trunk sticker. Incidentally, its harder than you think because theres not a real good place to look those codes up.
In total, all of the leather options added up to about $8,500.00. Which probably explains why its not a popular thing to do.
