Suggestion

Given that the fronts will usually last twice as long as the rears, I would replace the rears with the S02's just to keep the same tires.

It is just that I agree with the basic philosophy of using the same tire all around.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Need new rear tires. Have SO2's now. Was thinking of getting SO3's in the rear. How would the mix work until the fronts wear out and can be replaced with SO3's? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Good question. I'm in the same predicament and would like to know also. I have a c2 and I'm thinking it shouldn't matter.

POST 3Original post

I'm running SO3 now; why do you want to switch from SO2? I've heard that the SO2 has better dry traction.

POST 4Original post

I think the generaly accepted rule is that all four tires should be the same. Given that the fronts will usually last twice as long as the rears, I would replace the rears with the S02's just to keep the same tires. The next time the rears wear out the fronts will be good for replacement at the same time. My $.02

POST 5Original post

Mixing tires is never a good thing. Especially, two tires of completely different characters. I agree with Kerry, stick with the S-02 or go for the S-02A all-around. The S-03 is not as good in regards to dry performance.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Too late. Putting the S03's on now. I'll let you know how f!@#ed up it feels

POST 7Original post

I've got about 1500 miles with S02s in front and S03s in the rear and have had no handling problems, however, I've not tracked my car during this time frame. I was forced into the mis-match, as one of my rear S02s blew in Pascagoula, Mississippi. I coudn't get S02s for the rear so I just got S03s. I will say that the S03s are MUCH MUCH better in the wet than the S02s. I'm going to put S03s on the front in a couple of weeks, however, it is not due to any handling concerns. It is just that I agree with the basic philosophy of using the same tire all around.
