Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

http://seattle.en.craigslist.org/see...164300684.html Looking at possibly purchasing a 996 na soon around spring. Wondering what a good price for a low miles one would be?

POST 2Original post

I would say it's a "fair" price if he has all the maintenance records and such. Judging by your screen name, I would get the best condition high mileage 996 with good maintenance history at the lowest price since you guys are used to things breaking(944). j/k!!! Good luck with your search!

POST 3Original post

They are also known to know how to fix them too.

POST 4Original post

Looks like a very good deal to me (the one in your link) assuming the car checks out OK during a PPI. And, it says "OBO" so I'm assuming you can get an even better deal!

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 10949537

Yeah that's what I meant. If you're used to doing a lot of diy(as most 944 folks), might as well save some cash and go with the high mileage 996.

POST 7Original post

I agree, KK... that one still seems decent in terms of the car, price, mileage, etc. But, in general, the 996.2 ('02 and up) is what I would look for.

POST 8Original post

Buy the car and sell the seats... the GT3's are a nice upgrade and worth quite a bit if you don't want 'em.

POST 9Original post

I think the Mk1 Aero is one of the most beautiful 911's out there.

POST 10Original post

I also vote "fair" price. Very low mileage, and the Aerokit and GT3 seats are highly desirable options. If the condition is as nice as they claim then you can't go too wrong. I will also go the opposite direction from the conventional internet wisdom, I prefer the 996.1 over the 996.2. In my opinion (I owned a 2003 C2) the 996.1 is a much more raw and connected car, while still being very civilized and easy to drive daily. The 996.2 just felt too isolated for my tastes.

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 10949978

I don't like fatso's and we all know glove boxes aren't for real enthusiasts either. Also the PSM( p lease s ave m e) is for wussies as well.

POST 12Original post

I think all things considered, the mileage, aero kit, etc etc, the price seems very fair. Pleeze don't forget the PPI, that is the most important part of purchasing a previously owned Porsche

POST 13Original post

Hopefully the seller of that 996 in Seattle can use some of the proceeds to get a camera with working focus Low miles is nice though I think there are a few $K in negotiations still on the table. PPI is a must. No mention of any service work.

POST 14Original post

If You are really a buyer, why wait till Spring? That looks like a great deal ? OBO ? Buy it now while the seller is worried about storing it for the winter, and enjoy driving it now. If you are not Local Northwest - but serious buyer I can take a look see - though it is a hours drive north of home.

POST 15Original post

That is the car I looked for and did not find.....if it does well on the PPI....it is an awesome deal at 24k.....the fact that you know he will take a little less because nobody gets full asking price...you should jump on that before someone else does....my opinion.

POST 16Original post

I agree with what the others are saying, to me a Mk1 with an aero kit is a great looking car, one of the all time best. That car in good condition, that passes a PPI, would be worth 24k...and you could probably get close to 22k if the seller is motivated. Gl, keep us posted! DS

POST 17Original post

Fair price if is followed with clean PPI and includes maintenance records.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you all for your input. Its been reposted several times (the ad) and so I'm hoping I may use that to my advantage. And as far as waiting its because I am in the northwest and we are expecting snow this week and I recently bought a 4x4 truck for the winter with the hope to sell it and my 944 in the spring or after it stops snowing which ever comes first. But the main concern is maintenance and history of the car. Also what is PPI? Pre purchase inspection? Also what do you guys think of this one? http://seattle.en.craigslist.org/see...164300684.html Seems very similar to the original ad I posted about.

POST 21Original post

my experience with a seller that keeps re posting is because he cant sell the car,may have some underlying problems. Maybe ask him or her if any other potential buyers have taken the car for a ppi.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 10950624

Sorry I meant this link: http://seattle.en.craigslist.org/see...226815460.html And I will ask when the time is right.

POST 23Original post

Ah, OK. That looks like another good find. With any car, take it to someone who services Porsches to do the PPI. Figure on spending a few hundred or so on the PPI.

POST 24Original post

Is paint/interior color not a factor in this purchase?

POST 25Original post

Quotes source post: 10950709

The blue is nice, but if the first car has a full leather interior in black, that is tough to beat.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 10950709

It is loosely. I don't want red yellow or white. A darker color like blue or grey best suits my taste. Interior doesn't matter too much to me either

POST 27Original post

Just asking. In my search I was firm on black, silver, or dark gray. Doing that of course eliminates great candidates but by sticking to your visceral preferences you will get the car you want. YMMV.

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm pretty open as long as it has the aero kit. I'm okay even without GT3 seats.

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just ran across this ad. http://seattle.en.craigslist.org/see...242733109.html Curious as to how much I'd end up paying with fees and such. Never purchased a vehicle from a dealership. Also, is the maroon color a rare color? Never seen any Porsche that color since the 928. And what are the metal mesh pieces on the front? Purely cosmetic or functional?

POST 30Original post

Quotes source post: 10978039

Looks like it might be Arena Red, which is a less common color than the silvers, gray, black, etc. The mesh pieces will prevent road debris from getting lodged between the AC condensers and radiators. Otherwise you'll need to remove the bumper cover periodically to clean out leaves, cigarette butts, etc. Do a search on radiator cleaning and you'll learn more about this.

POST 31Original post

Frp front bumper so check for accidents. You'll most likely pay dealer doc fees and any prep fees. Not sure on Seattle taxes but here in IL, you would probably save over $1500 on taxes if bought from private sale instead dealer since state has flat tax structure on private sale. That's a nice and rare color btw.

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So maybe I'd be looking at around 2000 on top?

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 10984135

Depends on how Seattle's private auto sales tax structure is setup.

POST 34Original post

State sales tax in Washington state is the same percentage whether dealer or private sale. For a private sale you pay tax to the State when you license the vehicle, and the amount is based upon the sales amount you report to the DMV at the time. Be aware that if you report a sales figure that is too low according to the State's valuation database, they will either charge you tax that their valuation table shows or force you to prove there is damage or some other problem with the car making it's value less. The dealer just charges you tax at the time of transaction.

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 10986102

Thank you, luckily they've lowered the price 2000. I'm gonna bide my time and hope they lower it a bit more. If it gets sold its not the end of the world. Went and looked at it. Rebuild engine top to bottom. Was purchased by friend of the owner but returned for another vehicle. Not sure why. Could be a bad sign. When I go to test drive what are some things to watch for? Common issues with that year 911?
