Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found this in my reservoir after a drive yesterday. It feels oily by not like oil plus there is about a " of clear water sitting on top of it (after sitting since yesterday.) I just had a new water pump and coolant service about 500 miles ago as well as Tiptronic service. I'm assuming the Porsche coolant is not gold/brown like that. My oil level hasn't changed either since the service either. Car runs fine, not overheating/no warning lights etc. thanks Rich

POST 2Original post

Hard to tell from the photo but the color could be because of old coolant mixed with new (pink).

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've found some other posts showing intermix with oil/coolant images and this doesn't really look like the congealed mess I'm seeing in those. Plus when I dip my finger in it there is no film or oily residue, it feels more like antifreeze/water so hopefully you're right and that's all it is! Oil filler has no signs of water/oil mix and oil on the dipstick looks fine.

POST 4Original post

That looks like oil in there. Have you noticed a difference with the temp in the car with the heat on? Is it as warm as before? Is your oil level low?

POST 5Original post

If you're not sure, just use a Turkey baster to suck out some and put it in a clear cup. You should be able to see oil/gel/separation much more easily.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's clear once it's out of the tank and there is no separation. It's definitely feels like and anti freeze/water mix.

POST 8Original post

Btw, mine had the same color after the dealer replaced the coolant tank many yrs ago. I have since flushed it completely so now it's pure pink.

If there actually was oil in it I probably would have thought about doing that!

POST 10Original post

should be pink or for pre 2002 green, looks like some cheap coolant was put in there.

POST 12Original post

There were quite a few extended-life antifreezes sold with an orange base color. Sure looks like the same stuff.

POST 15Original post

Fron the look of the crust around your reservoir drain you could use a new cap. If you haven't put an updated blue cap on it buy one < $20. New part # ends in -04

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I did get a new reservoir cap-thanks, just need to clean up the tank
