Suggestion
Ok, I just googled the company and came upon two negative reviews by customers complaining about being required to pay a considerable sum of money to have engine torn down in order to determine if Warrentech would even pay for the engine, using non-standard and optimistic labor time for work, using used parts, etc.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

with 35k miles. very clean car. has remaining of a 2 yr aftermarket warranty (warrantech). 28k cash.
serviced at dealership. all records and i would be the third owner. any thoughts? anything i should look out for? i figure i'm covered from the typical disasters from the warranty.
it's my first porsche purchase. help!
thanks all!!!!
I've been looking for a 996 and my view is that while on the high side, that price is still within the range for that year and mileage. If it has exactly what you want in terms of options and colour and has no upcoming maintenance, then at least you won't be spending any more on those items.
Considering facelifted 996's (02+) have started selling below 30K that is a high price. It's sad, but it's reality. Options aren't going to influence it very much at all.
I think u guys are way to pessimistic on pricing. $28K for a 01 cab w/ 19 inch wheels is NOT too high. Any pictures? Pictures would help. A bad color would be the only reason it'd be too high
Not pessimistic at all. I think you are confusing pessimism with market reality. Trust me, we ALL want the pricing to be better but it just ain't happening any time soon. With facelifted 996's (02+) being sold below 30K and 997's selling below 40K it's just the cold hard truth. It sucks, but that's the way it is.
Well, Sept. 2009 Excellence says 01 Cab in excellent condition is valued at $34.3K so $28K based on Excellence appears to be a very good price, almost too good?
Know nothing about 3rd party warranty company but warranties offered by these companies can be quite good or not worth paper warranty the contract printed on.
You need to research Warrentech....

Based on my brief research I don't think the warranty on the car is worth anything.
I don't know what that does to the car's value since at $28K it appears to be quite a bit less than Excellence mag's valuation of a 2001 C2 Cab.
Words don't match the music and that bothers me. I'd tread very very carefully.
Sincerely,
Macster.
