Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 99 C2 5speed, full leather, supple, Aero, sport wheels long list of options.. and only 26k on the car. With the job market getting dicey and spouse pressure, ""having too many cars""!! I put the car up on consignment in March. Well the good news is I still have my job. The last couple of weeks I have been missing the 911. I have been thinking of pulling it from the car lot. Well the other day, I get call with an offer of 26500. The offer does not knock me off my feet. I know where Porsche prices are these days. But the reality is finding a nice loaded well care for car at those prices gets more challenging. So what do I do???? Over head of the car is only insurance, light maint and garage space.

POST 2Original post

If you are serious about selling it, then I'd take the offer. If you decide to negotiate, I wouldn't expect much more. This is a very reasonable offer. If your heart can't let you sell it at that price, then I wouldn't sell it at all. You are not likely to see offers higher, and the cars continue to depreciate. Good luck.

POST 3Original post

sell it - hell, its sub-standard with only a 5 speed anyhow

POST 4Original post

I would sell it, then take the proceeds and invest them in a mutual fund. When the time is right, and you are comfortable about your job again, you will have enough to buy a nicer newer 911 since prices are going down, down, down.

POST 5Original post

Take the offer. Later as the economy improves you'll be able to get back into a Porsche for less $ than the 1st time if you stick with a 996. GL.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys.. My mistake it is a 6 speed..

POST 7Original post

in that case DRIVE IT naw I would take the offer too

POST 8Original post

I'm with the others. Sell her and move on. It's not a Picasso or Dali and you can always buy another when you have a change of heart. Just my $0.02

POST 9Original post

That's a good price for a '99. I would take it and then have fun hunting for your next toy. That's what I'm doing. If you hold out and keep the car longer, it will only go down in value. I'm an expert at that piece.

POST 10Original post

Imagine how much he'll be whining after he sells the car...."I still miss her" and "God, I loved that car." We all have done it. I just hope he doesn't come back later and whine about it here. P.S. I think he should sell it, too. I didn't read anything in his original post that said he was passionate about the car.

POST 11Original post

passionate ? I am working on the second year of ownership and I now have a plexiglass barrier in the garage to keep me from drooling on my own car!!! still making trips to see it, still wash it with love and still talk sweetly to her... - I know its not the best, and may even be rather poor overall in some aspects, but its mine and I am very passionate about it!!!

You should have sold it = what else (seriously) ??? There's lots of these cars out there and your car is getting ready to blow the engine in about another 20K miles anyway. My 99' 996 survey with Porsche Indy's and what I have read here and elsewhere indicates that the 99's 'blow point ' mainly fell at about 40K - 50K miles (mine blew at 54K miles). If it lasted to 60K miles, it likely would last a long time, but otherwise the big-bang is getting ready to pop. Take the money and run and be sure to spell out in the sales receipt 'No warranty expressed or implied..."(R-U-N). Then decide later what you want.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guy’s for all you input and support. I do love this car and always enjoyed owning a Porsche. I am a car junky and had a lot of cars in my years. This car has been real good to me. I like the Aero package on the older cars. I also like clean cars when I get them. This car was 3 or 4 years old and only 9k on it. As you can see I am really perplex about this decision. As a lot of you have indicated this maybe a good time to move on. The other side of me is I really enjoyed this car. I am not one to whining when gone. Well maybe to the wife. Always good to do a guilt trip… One you decide you live with your choice… Thanks again all.. You have been great. Excellent points..

POST 14Original post

I think you can simplify it to: 1) You will NEVER be able to get a car as nice or set up the way you like, so keep it, and sell it if/when you MUST sell it. 2) You CAN find a newer and better version, and will be better off selling now and holding the money until you are comfortable buying another 996/997.

POST 15Original post

no pics? shame on you all for commenting. (i dont care if its for sale) my $.0174 {my $.02 after taxes}

POST 16Original post

Sell it and feel safer knowing you have the money in the bank in case something happens. You lose your job and the wife will never let you forget that you could have sold the car. Better safe than sorry. You can always get another later when times are better.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

never did this before.. But let's see if we have pic's now

POST 19Original post

+1 for selling. I'd almost sell my 02 for that

not if you had an aero kit you wouldnt man your car is sweet dude.(rdsii) the aero kit is great looking. wish i had one on mine! if your car was non aero kitted $26,500 would be a great price. on the other hand 26k is a stack of $$. is this your cut? (after consignment fees?)

POST 21Original post

Let me understand this correctly, the car is paid for, you enjoy the car immensely, yet you want to sell it even though you are riddled with doubt. I tell you this, you will surely regret selling this car and forever self flagellate yourself for eternity. Keep it, enjoy it, and thank the good Lord that life is good.

POST 23Original post

A guy a little farther down cannot get $26,500 for a 03 tip !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

POST 25Original post

That is a sweet looking 99 aero with low miles, and a great color combo. Nice 99 aeros with low miles are not that common, especially with a limited slip differential (if you have one). I say keep it and enjoy...it is a gorgeous car.

POST 26Original post

Mark, I'll join you in the minority. Sure, you've been given a nice offer, but you have a great car that is something special (because of the aero kit). I know that I would have a hard time parting with my car, even for that price, because I really don't think I'd find a newer car that's as nice for a price that I'm willing to pay.

POST 27Original post

If you want to sell the car it's a very fair, if not good, offer. If you don't want to sell it then simply continue to enjoy it realizing the next time the offer will likely be for less.
