Further, check if they warrant the car for any period of time or if they have an extended test drive (ie, a couple days) to allow you to really see if anything surfaces.

tell them you want to test drive it from Dallas to Boston...

The car is located in Dallas and I am in Boston, so it would be pretty difficult to do any extended test drives.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've been eyeing this car for a while. It's tempting for the price, but what are your thoughts? The catch is, this car has had FOUR (4) previous owners. One of them was a lease for 1 month, one owner had it for what looks to be 200 miles, etc.... sounds fishy.

Can anyone comment?
First, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from dealer as reputable as the Ruf auto centre. I would NOT be nearly as concerned with the number of owners as I am with the full PPI (including leakdown and compression) results done by an independent dealer. I am sure Ruf would have no problem with that. The pricing seems to be very fair on the car. Further, check if they warrant the car for any period of time or if they have an extended test drive (ie, a couple days) to allow you to really see if anything surfaces.
What sounds fishy about owning a Porsche for a period of time and only putting 200 miles on it? Talk to Phil about that
If you post the car fax it can be easily interpreted by many here that have more experience with history like you have found.
Yes, a full PPI would be needed. The car is located in Dallas and I am in Boston, so it would be pretty difficult to do any extended test drives.
The CARFAX is located here:

Help me since I don't know "Phil". Did his wife make him return a car or something?
Thanks for the input!
Hmmmmm..... I like that idea...
Also, I see who "Phil" is now. Sucks that I am 1 month too late in shopping since it seems like I would have been a very strong candidate to buy his car.
Here's my interpretation of the previous owners:
1st owner
5/14/03 to 4/4/06
2 yrs 10 months
Owned from 5 to 24625 miles
2nd owner
10/15/07 to 11/21/07
1 month
Owned from 24625 to 24630 = Driven 5 miles only!
Looks like the car was "repossessed" on 10/31/2007????
3rd owner
12/5/07 to 7/27/09
1 yr 7 months
Owned from 24630 to 26690 = 2060 miles
4th owner
7/27/09 to 8/9/09
13 DAYS REGISTERED IN Alaska!!!! ALASKA!!! Seems like there are stories to be told here...
Owned from 26690 to 26864 = 174 miles
What do you guys think? Am I going down the path of buying someone's "car *****"???
Probably has not been serviced since leaving first owner's hands. Repossessed can mean car damaged. Saw a repo'd car the other day at dealer. Bank repo. Some body damage, front bumper cover scraped up. No keys which means not only new keys but a new security module ($1000+ just for the module) and car is just filthy inside and out. Tech said car was pretty rough. It will be sorted but there are lots of places to cut costs.
Car's got a pretty scary history and has sat unused long periods of time. It is out of warranty.
Hard to believe you can't find a better car, one with a nicer history.
My opinion would be to keep looking. You can keep an eye on this car and if you can pick it up for cheap.... might be worth the risk. Going into fall and winter so unlikely car will sell unless price drops a lot.
There's always another car and I think you should look for another car.
Sincerely,
Macster.
Also, can't say I like the pictures. I see nothing bad in them just too many are duplicates or show much the same view of the car from the same angle.
No full side shots and the angle shots too acute for my tastes.
Lapis blue is a nice color and I like the color of the interior. Wood treatment nice but a bit tarty. Nice though.
Sincerely,
Macster.

I am sure he can assist in answering questions with this vehicle.
FWIW, this car has been discussed in the 996 Turbo forum in the past.
It is generally not well received simply due to the wood interior...the majority believe that wood does not belong in a 996 Turbo.
I think this is a different car from the ones that were discussed in the past. I did a search and did find a wood interior car, but it's not this one.
I happen to really like to wood interior which is why I am interested!!!
Here is his email...
"Previous owner of this bought it in late 2007.
He has a pretty large collection of cars and his attorney has set up an Alaska company to protect his assets. All of his vehicles that were titled in his name, were transferred over the past few months to his company in Alaska.
He traded this car for a 2007 997 GT3-RS.
So you know very few dealers report to Carfax to show service history. The car has been very well cared for; the condition of the car most definitely reflects its care.
We just performed the 30K service on the car including new plugs, cabin filter, air filters, and all the fluids.
I hope that clears up any confusion. The car is definitely very nice. No paintwork. All the wood interior is in excellent shape. The previous owner even replaced the wood piece around the base of the windshield ( $2,000 piece ) which was peeling up. Most people try and glue it back down versus replacing it due to the cost."
Doesnt answer ALL the questions, but does sort it out some. If I was nearer to TX I MIGHT MIGHT MIGHT trade my C2 for it. But I need 100 more ponies like I need another wife.
You can have 2 wives? Man, that is some deal. I can see how hard is would be to decide between more ponies or more wives.
Also, if you need someone to take a look at this car for you, I can run by and check it out.

I suppose it depends on how many ponies and how hot-looking the wives...
If you do live in the Dallas area, I would appreciate it if you do check that car out AND the black RUF one as well. I am interested in both. I've been trading calls with Jonathan Peck, but work has gotten crazy this week. If things progress, I'll schedule a PPI and book a flight down there to personally take a look.
Here's info on the black one. The motivation is that I've always wanted a RUF Porsche!!! - albeit a yellow one along the lines of the "Yellow Bird". Does anyone even remember the "Yellow Bird"???
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
I think this is the Yellow Bird....

When drivers were "real men" (and probably had more ***** than brains) unaided by any traction control crap. Watch how he saws the steering wheel left and right precisely through a corner...
Anyone know who the driver is?
