you check the list prices on European websites you will notice that their list prices are about the same; however, their prices are in Euro's.

To register the car you have to check the lights (if you have litronics it's ok, else you might need new headlights) and usually you have to diconnect the side markers and you need instead a stand light in front, you can use the calbes from the side markers.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

There was a thread recently about it. Look back through the post listings for a few pages. For most folks, I don't think it was worth it due to the registration costs, taxes, etc.
Believe it or not, Porsche's are more expensive in Europe than in the USA. If
you check the list prices on European websites you will notice that their list prices are about the same; however, their prices are in Euro's. The exchange rate alone will kill you since the Euro is worth about $1.40 US. The expense involved is in shipping, about $4000.00 with full insurance. Registering the vehicle has to be done in my brother's name since I have no history in Italy ever owning or driving a car. The reason for this is that I would be considered a new driver and thus subject to high expensive insurance premiums. The other expense involved is in transferring title to my brother with entails paying a 25% tax on the value of the car. From my understanding, this value is liberally assessed, I hope. I figure that I can state the value at approximately 10,000.00 Euro's and pay 2500.00 Euro tax. In addition, the yearly registration is based on HP; thus, a 300 plus HP vehicle pays about 1100.00 euros about $1500.00. You would think that European cars are much cheaper in their home countries, but sadly that is not the case. Ferrari's/Maserati's and Lambo's are in the same pricing range as the Porsche's. Furthermore, the roads in Europe are ideal for this type of car since many of them are twisty and in some cases not highly patrolled.
fyi I shipped my car from NJ to Southampton (UK) for about 800 US$.
I paid another 100 US$ for marine insurance.
Did this in May. PM me if you need details. (Southampton is obviously not Italy, but hey, it's a nice drive!)
I already shipped two cars to Europe (Germany) for a friend and for my brother. If you want to register the car in Europe you would have to pay the sales tax of the country you want to register the car (for example 19 % in Germany, don't know the sales tax in Italy), in addition 10 % custom. That's the same for all European countries. If the car is older than 30 years you don't have to pay sales tax and only 6 % custom. To register the car you have to check the lights (if you have litronics it's ok, else you might need new headlights) and usually you have to diconnect the side markers and you need instead a stand light in front, you can use the calbes from the side markers. You don't have to pay sales tax and custom if you had the car more than 1/2 year here in the US and you are now moving to Italy, in this case you would have to keep the car in Italy for at least 1 year. You might post a message at

, it's a German Porsche forum and some of them could know more.
Taxation obviously depends upon the national tax laws of the country you're importing into, and differ across Europe.
For instance I paid zero sales tax AND zero import duty when importing into the UK. So check Italian tax regs. Possible that as you've owned the car in the US (and did not soley buy the car for exportation), they may waive tax.

ppashley is right if you don't sell your car, in this case the car is part of your moving goods and therefore you don't have to pay tax. If you would sell the car within one year you would have to pay the tax and custom. I assume since you don't plan to sell the car it will count as moving good and no sales tax and custom would have to be paid.
