Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
Now, that being said, I suspect strongly that it (RUF) will prove to be more reliable than the EVO unit.
Leading evidence: 'strongly' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'strongly' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check engine' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

- From 40.000 km to 80.000 km we check the engine for the possibility of guarantee and replace the necessary parts

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know this has probably been asked before, so I appologize in advance if it was. I have a 3.6 C4s and am seriously consideringthe supercharger kit. Do you guys have any input as far as reliability, performance, negative effects on the car, etc? In other words, yay or nay? Also, is EVO the only company that has a kit like this?
You might want to do a search. There was a couple HUGE threads on this. For the most part, they are very good and actually increase gas mileage. They are also, VERY expensive.
Chad
Do you think that the frequency of the supercharger threads will ever hit an equilibrium with the frequency of the RMS threads? Just for the sake of mischief, I think I will start trying to link the two issues. That should start some real flame wars
I havent seen a RMS topic in a while, we shouldnt go there ,some really sesitive people out there! I am going to do a EVO supercharger kit. You should know that it voids the warranty , but if your Porsche dealer does it, they will still cover everything BUT the motor.
Ruf actually upgrades the motor to sustain a sc, that's why they warranty the motor for two years and evo doesn't. That's also why Ruf's is 20K, you get what you pay for I guess.
Where have you read this? I read the official RUF product release announcement and they just described a bolt-on unit like everyone elses, no mention of beefing up anything or warranty.
If you contact them directly and they will tell that based on the engine milage and condition it will get rebuilt with new bearings etc. That way they can warranty it.
...yep - the RUF SC kit seems to be the business. Am investigating it for my car and have been in correspondence with RUF. Their kit has been two years in development and comes with a 2 year guarantee!
They have kits for all 996/997 variants (manual and tiptronic).
The problem with RUF is that it is about twice the bucks, and half the power, if I remember right. (If not, someone please correct me)
Now, that being said, I suspect strongly that it (RUF) will prove to be more reliable than the EVO unit. But, the question is by what degree? If the EVO unit is 99.9% reliable, and the RUF unit is 99.99% reliable, then the RUF unit is ten times more reliable. Sounds impressive, until you realize that we are talking about the difference between 1 unit out of 1,000 failing versus 1 unit out of 10,000. At that point, the cost and power issues completely swamp the reliability, IMHO.
BUT -- please note, the reliability figures I just gave are purely hypothetical examples. I have no idea (yet) as to how reliable the EVO unit will be, or the RUF either. I just made those numbers up as examples. It could be 50% reliability, for all I know. (but I seriously doubt it, based on conversations I've had with folks who put the EVO units in, some as long as over a year ago)
=Carlos=
P.S. On a personal note, my EVO SC made it through it's first track day today, with no problems.
You know... reliability might not be the only issue. RUF is going for durability as well and its about fisics if an engine is stressed by its state of tune (or its use) it won't last as long or eventually something will let go by fatigue. I'd definitely fit an Evo SC on a $40K 99' 996 but I'd fit a RUF on my 03' C4S specially because here in Portugal a 03 C4s is worth $105 K (yes its correct and it costed new $168K).Just my .02 though...
RUF Compressor Kit for all 996 and 997 Carrera
RUF upgrades all naturally aspirated Porsche 996 and 997 Carrera for more performance.
Many Porsche 996 and 997 Carrera owners would like to have additional horsepower for their vehicles. RUF provides the solution! RUFs bolt on Compressor Kit, which includes a supercharger with intercooler, provides inproved acceleration, torque and maximum speed. Horsepower and torque are increased throughout the RPM range.
The compressor kit contains a centrifugal compressor, which is driven mechanically by a Poly-Rip belt. The maximum boost is 0,5 bar; the fuel preasure remains standard. The engine receives a new intake manifold, modified injectors, sports catalytic converters und a modified electronic engine management. The watercooled intercooler has a cooling water circuit with an electric water pump from the water cooler in the front spoiler.
The 3.4 liter engine has a performance of 360 bhp (265 kW) and a torque of 400 Nm; the 3.6 liter engine has 380 bhp (279 kW) and 420 Nm. The supercharged 3.8 liter engine of the 997 Carrera S provides 415 bhp (305 kW) and 440 Nm torque.
996 Carrera 3.4 liter with RUF compressor acceleration: 0 62 mph (0 100 km/h) in
4.7 sec., 0 125 mph (0 200 km/h) in 15.8 sec. Maximum speed: 187,5 mph (300 km/h).
The Compressor Kit fits to all 996 and 997 Carrera with rear- or four wheel drive, including manual gear box or tiptronic S.
The Widebody Kit compliments the increased performance of the Compressor Kit. Included are a RUF designed front spoiler, front and rear fender flares, side skirts and a rear spoiler inspired by the Duck Tail from the legendary 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7. The Widebody Kit also fits the 996 GT 3.

Yes, that's the same email that I got from Marc back in early February. It would be nice to hear from someone who has installed one of these. I'm sure it's a quality product, as are most things RUF.
My EVO SC made it through a second day of DE, no problems. I have good news: my '99 C2 cab can now officially keep up with a TT cab -- I actually passed it and never saw it again. That was fun!
=Carlos=
P.S. To be fair to the TT cab driver, he had the added burden of having an instructor with him. I didn't have an instructor, but I did have my hardtop on, which he didn't. But I think I still came out ahead (less weight) as far as "extra" weight goes, and way ahead as far as total weight, of course.
I'd like to run against a TT coupe -- that would be tougher. Anybody with an SC have any experience doing that?
Carlos: Congrats on the new SC! I think you're going to really enjoy it. I'm considering going to the meet and drive starting at Rockville Starbucks at 10am on Sunday. Are you thinking of going? There's a thread with details on the event somewhere here if you're interested.
Regards
Hey Mitch,
Sorry, I can't make it, I'll be at the Preakness all day Saturday, and have to hang around on Sunday to make up for it. Some other time, I hope.
Re the SC: you're the guy to blame for my getting it -- not sure if I would have bitten the bullet if you hadn't had yours sucessfully installed at Intersport. Thanks!
