Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I just replaced my engine last week with a new/reman factory X51 after the original developed a scored cylinder on #6.
Leading evidence: 'Replace engine last week' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace engine last week' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Suggestion
Might try to sell it to the "other" engine shops first, because they pay more for cores than we do, because they need them more than we do and use more than 6 items from the engine to build their engines from.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just replaced my engine last week with a new/reman factory X51 after the original developed a scored cylinder on #6. Because it was not an "apples to apples" exchange, Porsche won't refund the core charge so I've kept the engine.
The core has new coils and plugs that were installed 9000kms ago and it also has the LN Engineering updated IMS ceramic bearing. All the ancillary systems (alternator, starter and stock headers) are on it.
The VAL (Vehicle Analysis Log) showed not a single type 2 overrev. It's a solid core...except for the scoring issue.
I spoke to a few techs, and this engine can be rebuilt or built up to a larger displacement. I'm not really interested in doing that, I just want to recoup all or some of the $4500 CAD core charge.
What do you guys think it's worth? I've got a couple of people asking locally about it, but I'm not sure what to ask for it and it might be better to list it here.

I think you've made a mistake...you should recrate that X51 and ship it to me for $4500. I'll pay cash
Did you do this through Porsche? How much did it cost you?
I thought i read somewhere that Jake Raby was having trouble sourcing good 996 engines...maybe you should message him. He could turn that into a nice 4.0 !!
We might be interested, but cores aren't worth a lot to us.. Because we build from the purchaser's engine with our program.. And because we throw away so much of the original components that other shops reuse..

:-)
your core is worth about $4,000 to somebody who needs a new engine and has damaged their core via damaging the case such that porsche won't accept it... if a buyer had your core that is what he would save on a new purchase..
curious... cylinder 6 scoring is common among track driven cars... (as well as cylinder 2 and 3) how many km did your engine have when you found this? did you experience any knocking sounds?
Picked up the car last Thursday afternoon and having only done 300 kms since, the engine is still very tight; I'm also following Porsche break in procedures too. Having said that, the car wants to rev faster and it definitely pulls harder even at lower RPMs (where I'm confined until break in is complete). I think the difference in a couple of thousand K's is going to be quite marked.
It also sounds throatier. I already had the factory PSE so the sound was already great, but the larger intakes manifolds and exhaust headers seem to add to the sound.
