Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I hear some sort of rubbing noise whenever I turn the steering wheel. Any ideas what could be causing this? The noise is definitely steering related, and not the suspension (which makes its OWN squeaking sound).

POST 2Original post

...i'm having exactly the same problem. Have you found the cause and or cure?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It was very pronounced for about three weeks...and then suddenly yesterday it stopped. I have no idea why! I will have them look at it next time I'm in for service, which will be the end of the month.

POST 4Original post

....it is very cold here at the moment (-1 oC) and the problem is definitely worse than when it was warmer. The noise does reduce after a drive maybe as the components warm up? Does any of this fit in with your experience?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You may be right. The noise went away as soon as the ambient temperature was a few degrees warmer. What could it be then? Some sort of flexible insulation or something in the column?

POST 6Original post

...i've found this other thread. Looks like it could be a spring in the steering column, where it is situated i have no idea. Might popit in to the OPC for some trouble shooting. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/170087-2-strange-problems-this-morning.html

POST 7Original post

BTW...did yours do it with the ignition off and hence power steering off?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I can't recall. I'm taking my car in for service this week and I'll mention the problem to them to see if they come up with anything.

POST 9Original post

I had this problem whenever it was humid out. It never went away.
