Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Last night I heard a distinct backfire at WOT at about 6500 rpm's, just happened once. Any ideas? Plugs/ fuel? Car runs great otherwise, just got back from the dealer monday with clean bill of health. FWIW, I heard a similar thing while at the track last fall, I attributed it to the POS in front of me that was backfiring like crazy

POST 2Original post

Does it appear to be back firing out of the exhaust or the intake? The intake would sound more muffled. Is your car running a modified chip? Possible timing blip.

POST 3Original post

Have you changed fuel type lately? Hook up your scanner and look for pending DTC's. Also check the secondary O2 sensor voltage to make sure they are both at least .85 volts at WOT. (Any gear).

POST 4Original post

Are you sure it was backfire not the fuel cutoff at rev limit? I'm always bangin it off the rev limiter at the track, but it happens at 7300 RPM not 6500.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have the stock chip, I did fill it up at a cut rate gas station the other day (no choice), forgot about that. It did sound slightly muffled at that, thanks guys. What's a DTC?

POST 6Original post

What's a DTC? Diagnostic Trouble Codes You might want to go fill up with a better gas and take it easy until the majority of fuel in your tank is good stuff.
