Suggestion

I have been mainly doing the inlet connected to the outlet (Stage II, pic 3) because I feel it is a better sounding mod than using the third port.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I should have done this a long time ago, It is awsome. My car now sounds like a porsche. Best part is it is not loud unless you get on it. So for those who drive everyday it is not annoying. It is by far the best mod yet ! The new wheels are pretty nice also.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Love these new wheels, for some they might be too much of an offset for a 996nb, they do not rub and they line up pretty well with the fenders.

POST 3Original post

Love the Fister mod and your cab looks very nice. Love the color combo. Thanks for your pics.

POST 4Original post

What is the exact size and make of those wheels coool looking !

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

They are made by a company avant garde, they are a cast wheel, they are basically a p40 copy. They are 19's the rear are 19x11 with a et of 56 and the fronts have an et of 43. I run 235/35 fronts and 315/25/19 rears on a 996 NB. It does not take an oem center cap but they come with porsche center caps. I have a friend with p40's and it is very difficult to see a difference. The car is a daily driver and after my first set of wheels that cost me 6k with tires started to peel I could not dump that kind of money again. This is my 4th set of wheels since i can't make up my mind, until now. Pm me if you want to know where I got them and what I paid. The 5 spoke in the first picture are for sale if someone is interested, I will let them go cheap they are also 19's

POST 7Original post

Sweet looking wheels! THe muffler mod is under rated by those who haven't done it! Most everyone who has it done says they should have done it sooner, right Marc?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think the price is more than fair for what you get.

POST 11Original post

+1 for the Fister mod being on the "Must Do" list

POST 12Original post

have the fisterds for about 2 weeks now - love them. Civilized and evil at the same time.

POST 13Original post

+1 on the wheels; and the offsets are just right where spacers are not needed. provided the car isn't lowered. 315/25 rears are much larger than what most guys are running on 19's; meaty for sure. looks good.

POST 15Original post

Im digging those wheels bud. Nicely concaved rears especially. Thanks for posting.

POST 16Original post

I love them. Did you them specially made for your car. They only see to make BMW and Mercedes bolt pattern and offsets.

POST 17Original post

about the fister mod, all of you have the mod that link the inlet to the outlet directly or some of you have the stage I mod that 'duplicate' the PSE, which is tube linking outlet to the 3rd hole of the muffler ?

POST 18Original post

Quotes source posts: 7588225, 7588306, 7590886

I'm glad you like them The original PSE on the earlier 996, had the pipe (albeit smaller) that connected the inlet to the outlet directly (first pic). They then switched to the third port to the outlet on the later 996s (pic 2). I have been mainly doing the inlet connected to the outlet (Stage II, pic 3) because I feel it is a better sounding mod than using the third port. That is just my opinion, but I have done a lot of these. It also works great on 3.4 cans, where as Stage I only works on 3.6 cans.

POST 19Original post

Darin, I have always wondered why you call what is esentially the MK I muffler mod "Stage II" and call the MK II muffler mod (from the third outlet) "Stage I." It seems 'bassackward." Just curious.

POST 20Original post

Darin... PSE's dont sound like your modded cans. Have ever opened up a stock and PSE cans and compared the two internals? PSE has more of a bark and your modded cans have more of a growl.... these cans seems to have different internals, maybe you can mod a stock can to sound like a PSE an option.

POST 21Original post

Does anyone have an apples to apples sound clip comparison of stock vs. post-Fister? I'm thinking about this on my '99 3.4L (I know, I know, stop thinking). I like the stock sound, but it is a bit anemic.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source posts: 7592924, 7593103

That's a fair questions. Here's how that came about : The first 996 mods I began doing was the MKII mod. I wasn't really following it on Rlist that much (a RL'er asked me to do it for him.) I liked the mod ok, but was looking for a little more sound. I had been modifying 993 mufflers with an inlet-outlet bypass for a while and decided to try it on a 996. It sounded really good and was a little louder and more aggressive. That's when I started offering 2 mods for the 996: Stage I (MKII) for a nice sound, a little less aggressive, and Stage II (MKI) which is a little louder and has a more aggressive tone. Some of my clients are not RL'ers, so it made total sense. The MKI and MKII names are mainly a Rennlist thing. So for my business it works like the 993 mufflers, as the Stages increase, so does the volume and aggressiveness. The Stage II mod has become the only mod I really do anymore. it works great on all 996 (3.4 & 3.6) as well as 997.1s. I have seen the internals of regular 996 mufflers, but no one has let me cut open their PSE cans yet? Do you have a set I can disect? Also, with the construction of the 996 mufflers, it will be a bit of a chore welding them back together. Much more time and materials will raise the cost a bit. I have a Stage III modification for the 993 that is very aggressive which involves cutting open the can and removing all of the internals and re-piping it with new stainless to my specs. I have been contemplating doing a 996 version. It will lighten them a lot and should sound very mean. Here is the 993 version:

POST 23Original post

Darin, Thanks for the explanation. Considering that some of your clients are outside of RL, that makes sense to me now.

POST 24Original post

Bump for anyone who has sound clips of both factory and Fister sounds?

POST 25Original post

Lice, If you are debating if you should do this mod or no, stop debating and ........... just do it! You will love it!

POST 26Original post

totally agree with Tim... I listened to about 100 sound clips and ended up with By-Pass pipes... after 3 days I took them off and reluctantly "gave these a shot" - they are PERFECT !! this is a total 100% no brainer mod and without exception EVERYONE who has done agrees they are perfect. sounds clips just dont really work like real life ! (my crappy try at a clip - this is my old car)

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 7600121

That sounds awesome. This is what I'd do if I had a 993.

POST 28Original post

Man this has really got me thinking.... For people who have heard the MKII vs the Fabspeed........is the MKII more crackly / raspy? My fabs sound a bit muffled. Thoughts?

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 7629855

yes, they have that "raspy" sound for sure!

POST 30Original post

+1 for hearing the before & after soundclip of the Fister D mod.

POST 33Original post

Awesome clips all.. thanks for sharing. OK, I'm sold

POST 34Original post

I could of sworn the before and after are available on youtube.

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I heard some clips there also

POST 36Original post

Quotes source post: 7629855

Pete, My understanding is that if you ever want to upgrade to 200 cell CATs, Fabspeed exhaust combo will drone where as the modded stock muffler will not. That is worth a look. The downside is that you add weight back on which Fabspeeds took off. As for the sound, Fabspeeds are a higher pitch and still 1000% better than stock.

POST 37Original post

Quotes source post: 7631687

I agree with you on the weight. What I need to do (which I have never done) is let someone else drive the car away from me as I stand on the road. I have always heard the fabs from in my car but not from the "person in the street" perspective. Guess that means I have to let the Wife drive it I still have my 3.4 stock cans sitting in the basement so the hack is an option or just send them to FisterD and trade. What to do, What to do......

POST 38Original post

ME Pick ME !! I'll drive that bad a$$ mother AWAY from you !!

POST 41Original post

Very tempting Marc.......can you put a glass jar over your exhaust, put the lid on and FedEx it to me instead?

POST 42Original post

mailing sounds doesnt work but I could mail you some air-cooled smells
