Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Before I get it reset, should I take off the door panel and check the connection?

So, one question, do I ned to replace the whole regulator?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Okay, so I am cheap.
My window was grinding up and down. I pulled the door apart with the help of this forum and part the cables for my regulator are toast.
So, one question, do I ned to replace the whole regulator? Or can I be cheap and order the specific part?
My second question is does anyone have a picture of a door showing all wire and cable positions (I was stupid enough not to take a picture beforehand) so I don't mess up putting it all back together
Thanks in advance
Greg
Welcome to Rennlist. It is customary for Newbies to tell us a little about their car and to post pics of the exterior and the interior of their car, not the "inside" of the car. But since you did post a pic, you get half credit.
Search is your friend. Here is a link to a regulator replacement DIY on a Boxster, but the 996 regulator is exactly the same.
Window Regulator Replacement DIY
The regulator is the same, but the disassembly of the door panel was a little different when I did it. It might be a MK I vs. MK II thing.
Based on the photos above, yes... you need to replace the whole regulator. Probably not the motor - you can attach your existing motor to the new regulator.
The regulator has made itself a happy home in the car. Unfortunately, the airbag light is on after I disconnected it for the installation. Also the radio is kaput.
The dealer says to get the VIN and radio serial #and they will get me the code, so the radio shouldn't be a problem.
But to reset the air bag light, to me, is. $60 to reset. Is this normal? Do you think that I might have not connected the pins correctly? Before I get it reset, should I take off the door panel and check the connection?
And now that it is clean, here is my baby...
